star spangled man with a plan

A few weeks ago I found this great little jacket at a Banana Republic outlet, perfect basic for spring, right?

Silly me, I can't have basics.

A couple hours after buying the jacket, it all just hit me at once: Captain America, Swaroski crystals, glitter. It needed to happen.

To the craft store we went, and I started on it right away. I referenced a collection of old WWII Captain America comics, so we have boy Bucky Barnes, and the original uniform for Cap. I did a few figural sketches, but other than that, I just kind of went with it, unplanned.

I wish I could have conveyed how sparkly it really is, there's pink glitter all over my house (sorry kitties), and I used some legit Swarovski crystals and brass Tiffany settings. We do high class tacky over at Vixen Vintage.

I found a pin at Disneyland last week (more on that later) that fits perfectly on the lapel, can't wait to wear my new jacket to see Age of Ultron

Matanuska Glacier

Last week I spent some time visiting my dad in Alaska, northeast of Anchorage. We did all kinds of sightseeing, from the view looking out his living room window of snow capped mountain ranges, to driving up to Whitter and seeing glaciers from afar and avalanche sights up close. We went to a restaurant at the top of a snowy mountain only accessible by lift, and drove through an area that looked like an extreme version of the Columbia River Gorge.

The most special experience was the Matanuska Glacier, which you can actually hike on and explore. It's completely unreal walking on a vast landscape of ice and snow, the blues and whites reflect light like nothing else, and the silt creates beautiful contrasted patterns. I kept thinking of all the movies that could easily call this the inspiration for it's sets (on Instagram a few people mentioned how much it looked like Interstellar, so I may have to watch that soon).

I hope you enjoy the photos, I certainly loved being there!

Spring wishes

My new Play Purse, based off of those cute little vintage toy purses, was the perfect clutch for a sunny easter weekend. It just begged to be photographed in a field of dandelions and wishes before they soar away.
