Baby it's still cold outside
Today I visited some local vintage shops I had yet to go to (they're fairly new), and found something at each of them! I found this sporty little 1950s jacket at "The Vintage Connection", a mostly furniture shop, with some clothing. I thought is was another cute little rare casual gem, though I do feel like I should be doing some sort of outdoorsy thing. Like drinking coco in a mountain lodge ;)
My aunt said it looks like something a Matterhorn ride attendant would wear in 1950s Disneyland. Which got us thinking to where all those cute little vintage costumes are now. Disneyland basement? I must know.
Anyway, hope you like my little casual wear, I enjoy sharing them a bit more than formal stuff, just because I never see them as much. And it's nice to break the stereotype that all women in the 50s wore girdles and heels every waking hour. They liked comfort too :)

Can you tell me where The Vintage Connection is? I live in Battle Ground not far from Vancouver and I am always looking for good local vintage shops!
Thanks!
Sure thing! I can't seem to find them online yet, but they are downtown on main st, right next to the Old Town Antique market. And around the corner is "Most Everything" a really cute shop, kind of hidden though. And up the street (also on main) is "Swoon", all three are within a couple blocks, and worth going too. Next time I'll bring my camera and do a post about them!
xoxo
Cute!. I just wish it wasn't so dang cold here for you to be wearing that right now... sigh....
When I first saw this I thought "Classay Inuit." But Matterhorn attendant makes more sense, which is weird. And this list of vintage shops is going to be handy for when I'm passing through Vancouver/Portland later this month! It's like a little To-Do list.

cute and comfy!that is an all around win
So cute! It must have been the day for thrift store bargains, I found the most beautful mint condition 50s evening dress, a rare gem where I come from where only the 80s seem to exiit in thriftland.
That jacket is adorable, and it's definitely interesting to see more casual items.
The details on this jacket are so cute!
Reminds me of old photographs of skiing resorts in the 40s-50s, with laughing, free, sporty women. I was so amazed seeing pictures like that as at that time I associated those times with contricting, classy clothing. Now I know better, of course, and don't bat an eyelid when seeing photos of bathing-suit clad skiers form the 40s. :)
Baby it's still warm outside. Half way through Autumn and today was 31celcius.( 87Farenheit) Wish mother nature would just share the weather evenly.
But I really like your jacket it's really cute :D
such a cute coat, i love the details!!! x

Such a cute jacket-looks toasty warm :)
Reminds me so much of one that I wore when I was a little girl (that was in the 70s-gawd I feel old now! Lol!) :)
love the casual vintage look especially your little jumper underneath :D i've been trying to find something like that for ages!
Love your blog!!! And the jacket is so cute! :)
You have a new follower!!!

I think the ribbon trim makes this jacket...I actually thought this was a child's until I read further. I haven't worn too many vintage coats until the styling is fabulous. Most look best with dresses, skirts and ho hum with a pair of jeans.
Too cute! Looks great on you. Just found your blog and it's absolutely inspiring and fun. Just became another new follower.

These photos are gorgeous! I love the details on this - so beautiful xoxo
All Disney costumes no longer in use get burned. When I worked costuming in Disney (worst 3 months of my life!) They had a place we put all the costumes that were old/worn out. Disney does not have a basement per say, but they do have a million storage areas that are full of things that cost thousands of dollars and will never be used. Don't get me started on how wasteful they are!
Great find, I love this jacket! I'm a bit obsessed with vintage Disney too, would be interested to see if they had some kind of park costume archive! :)
thats a really cute coat, I love it when a day of thrifting goes well. Have a fantastic weekend!
So cute!!! I just love how the hood zips and opens like that. :)

How cute is that hood???
hey there!
this is my first time commenting, even though i've followed your blog for awhile.
I just had to tell you because it was mentioned, i actually own a vintage disneyland matterhorn leiderhosen jacket! It is from the early 60s, around the time disneyland opened. I adore it!
I ended up acquiring it from the vintage store that i run... it was a great find! Cute jacket, btw -- and i love your style.

I don't understand where/how you get all these lovely clothes. Vintage shops are just NOT like that in the UK - theyre usually just full of ill-fitting jeans and late 90s chain-shop rubbish. and if there is ever something nice, it's always a size 22 when I'm a UK 8.
this blog breaks my heart for that reason : (
Dear Solanah,
I have been reading your wonderful blog for quite some time and wanted to let you know how much difference you are making in the life of my 16 yr. old daughter. She does not like the current styles, being more curvy than much of the clothes sold are designed for. She has taken a great interest in vintage clothing and we often look at your blog for guidance and inspiration. She was thrilled to find the "bloomers" post as this is an issue she is often frustrated with. We are on the hunt for some vintage bloomers and thank you for your post. I'm dissappointed that ladies can be so hurtful over something so silly. Let the negativity go, life is too short. Blessings to you today!
Ha, that is too cute! Animal Traffic had an adorable dirndl skirt with a very similar trim last week, it would match that jacket perfectly!
I want to shop with you...seems like you have the best luck!
god, i love your hair. if i ever cut mine it will be something like this.~.~
how cool! ive been looking for a vintage type sports coat for ages!! if only i could get a flight over *sigh* looks great on you hun!xxxx
Ahhh... that last picture is so cute! I'm always impressed when people wear casual stuff and actually look that good in it. I really love casual stuff like jeans and loose jackets and all that comfy and practical stuff, but I can't see myself in it (anymore). That look is great though.
Creative Miss W, thank you so much!
Mary, how funny! And I agree, what great find!
xoxo
Love this jacket! Found your blog via @dadekian on Twitter and just love it!
some of the Disneyland uniforms are to die for, I wouldn't say no to most of the Main Street USA cast member uniforms or those lovely purple ones the Phantom Manor CMs of Disneyland Paris wear!
