Antique expo finds

I usually have a little mental list of things I want to find every time I go to the Antique expo. And while I always leave with bags of goodies, it's rare to find exactly what I want. But this time I got everything! Friday I went to early admission with Twila Jean and Rhiannon and picked up the suit, green dress, and acorn sweater. I went the next day with Marjorie Mink of Reviving Vintage, and we had a blast!

I had a red acorn accessory on my list to match the sweater I got Friday. At the beginning of the show I found this cute little squirrel pin and thought it would go with my acorn sweater very well. But at the end, as I was waiting for Sam to pick me up I browsed a bakelite dealer and saw the perfect red acorn necklace. It was way out of my price range, but I chatted with the dealer and told her about my sweater, and she cut over $100 off of the price because she loved the fact that I was dressed up and that I had a sweater to match the pretty necklace. Wow! She said "it's been with me too long, and needs a good home."

This green dress is fantastic, late 30s, early 40s, with side button closure and a bow belt!

This was in a booth full of hats, under a table! It was calling me. I was so excited to find it, this style of hat has been on my list for ages, and it's just so perfect! Even the label is cute!

Sweet little 1940s lovebirds pin

Also on my list for years have been brown leather driving gloves, for all that driving I do.

A beautiful New Look suit, with nipped waist and full skirt! Who could ask for more?

Two bakelite bangles.

A fabulous 40s face framer with pheasant feathers. Say that five times fast.

This is a "Hollywood Head Topper" but I can't quite figure out how it ties. I have it tied just fine, but that little triangle is just so random I can't make it work. Yet.

This beauty was a gift from Marjorie, isn't that sweet! Can't wait to accessorize with pink and blue.

Something recent on my wish list was an Edwardian corset for The Titanic Tea. A tall order, and one I honestly didn't expect to fill, but while we were in a booth looking at a girdle the vendor asked if I was looking for a Victorian corset. Read minds much? I replied I was on the lookout for an Edwardian one, and she pointed to a corner, and lo and behold, there it was! Even better than I could have asked for. I'll have detail photos of it soon!

The dressing up has helped me get deals as well! Sellers sometimes just love to know their item is going to someone else who knows, loves and appreciates its history and will actually wear/use the item. You got SO much awesome stuff. I need to come to this Expo one day...I have a feeling my mind will be *blown*. I always run into the exact same people every time I go out here, and then when I go to antique stores I see them again, with most of the same things.

Oh! That acorn necklace is pure genius. I love the story behind it too. I'm kind of the same way when selling vintage. I always want it to go home with someone that will love it as much as I do. The Vintage Expo is happening here in San Francisco in a couple weeks and I can't wait! I hope I find as many great things as you did.
XOXO

wow wow wow wow. I wish we had fair's like this in Australia, but it seems like it's a bizarre Australian custom to throw out anything worn before 1980, hence no amazing fairs. love the bakelite, love the hats, love the green dress.

OMG, how I love the acorn necklace. That's too cute! You must be really lucky. Are the leaves bakelite too or are they wooden? I look forward seeing you wearing it.

Wow, you did super well. The Vintage gods were on your side for sure and it is amazing how the corset seller suggested what was on your mind. Am loving everything.

You got so many great things! I would love to go to something like that with a person like you. It's always hard for me to know what is worth the money and what isn't. That green dress is SO pretty. I can't wait to see how you wear it. I'm also jealous of that pink hat. love!

What awesome finds!!
Funnily enough, I have the same acorn sweater but mine is yellow and green. We're sweater twins :) SO neat to see another one in another colorway!
That necklace is to die for!

Hi Solana,

I am swooning over that green 1930's dress, Edwardian Corset, and blue 1940-50's suit. Great picks, but then again I expect nothing less from a vintage fashionista like yourself.

Okay, I've been known for my "deal finds," {I got my sis a Dolce&Gabana purse for $15} but I dunno if it's as good as getting the owner of the necklace to take off over $100.

I think I need to take you with me next time I go shopping for vintage.

WOW!!! I always love seeing what treasures you find at vintage shows and it seems like this trip you really hit the mother-load! The acorn necklace is my favorite--so cute and it's going to be perfect with that sweater.

Wonderful finds! Rarely do I even remember to look for items that I swore I'd look for at a vintage fair, let alone find any of them. I'm absolutely gaga over the wonderfulness that is the acorn necklace, sweater and squirrel brooch. Just SO awesome!

The green dress is amazing its worthy of numerous words to describe its awesomeness! That’s great about the necklace; I’m trying to get more accessories to match my vintage clothing. I’m saving up to come over next year just for this.
