Here's a little Downton Abbey inspiration for those of you participating in Titanic events this year.
These screencaps are from the first four episodes of season 1, closest to the sinking of the Titanic, the event which the family has a connection to and opens the show.
My favorites are the hats, both wide brimmed and cloche, and the many tailored jackets Lady Mary wears. Where's a custom tailor when you need one...
Anyone in the Portland area can buy tickets to my Titanic Tea here
Man I love Downton Abbey! I'm not usually a fan of this era of costuming but I def agree about the lovely tailoring! And of course I love all the drama and Maggie Smith put downs, perfect viewing :)
Me and my other vintage friends are so sad that we don't live in Portland for the Titanic tea! To compensate for our disappointment, we're going to the premiere of the new Great Gatsby movie dressed up in gowns, cloches, and fur coats =)
Aside from that fact that they're wearing long skirts, every one of these tops could be worn today. I love them! Also, the gowns are beautiful. I'd definitely wear one of them today if I had an occasion to do so. I haven't yet started watching this series but plan to do so this weekend.
I love downtown abbey!! if you like this i recommend "call the midwife" its a costume drama set in the 1950`s about midwives in the east end of london you can find it on bbc iplayer georgia xxxxx
Thanks for the inspiration :) I'm working on a duster coat for the 1912 project and I love seeing the colors and fabric textures used for this time period!
Michelle has some lovely dresses, especially that blue flowered one with the white frilly collar! She looks so beautiful as a grown-up in all these outfits! I also like the hats on everyone- they're brilliant!
I love Downton, if only dressing like this was still in vogue!
Also, re Cassie's question... I posted a hair tutorial tonight on my blog on how to get Mary's hair from Downton. Good timing hey? http://wildteaparty.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/edwardian-hair-style.html
Thank you for this lovely eye-candy. I love the early dresses on the Crawleys especially the suits. I hope to make my own soon. I'm heading up to your lovely state this morning, and will be attending the Port Townsend Victorian Festival on Sat, giving a presentation at 11am in the Cotton Building there on Watches & How Women Wore Them, and be in the fashion show at 4:30 (just in case you happen to go). Many of the local costume guild members are going to be there also. Val

I love the plot but I still think I'd watch the show even if the plot sucks just for the amazing wardrobe eye candy!

I absolutely love those series - and the outfits as well. I even have some pictures in my "style" folder in my documents on my computer. (:

Not sure why, but for me it always seemed like there was a lot of purple going on with the costumes.
