Here's what Ruth and I wore to the picnic. She borrowed her outfit from my closet, the jumper being from Fab Gabs, and the blouse thrifted, originally from H&M. I was really surprised when I found the blouse and saw the label, it's the perfect late 30s design, in the perfect colors and print. When I wear it to threads I'll have to make a pattern from it, I just love finding modern pieces that can fit in a vintage wardrobe so well.
I made my dress combining the patterns for the skirt of a 30s outfit, and the top from a late 30s/early 40s dress. The bakelite necklace and bracelet are both from Expo, I thought the necklace especially appropriate for a picnic :)
I found the fabric at an estate sale and just love it, there's lots more leftover!All the materials for the dress came to about four cents. Thanks goodness for estate sales. Even a good deal by 1938 standards!
You both look (and are) so incredibly beautiful in your late 30s garb. I'm especially taken with your sublime acorn necklace - one can't find a more perfect autumn inspired accessory than that!
I was totally drooling over your dress and thinking to myself, "Oh my gosh! WHERE did she find such an amazing piece?!" I should have known you made it! :) What a great idea to combine the two patterns (I'll have to remember that), and the fabric pattern is perfect! GOOD JOB! :)
I'll have to check out H&M more often. I was lucky enough to find a button down H&M blouse with puffed short sleeves at my local thrift shop. I believe it was between $2-$3.
Good thing you showed the rick rack up close. I thought it was one of those puffed lines some vintage dresses have sewn into the seems. Very nice job.
Perfect! I love the rick-rack edging in your dress. I also absolutely adore your necklace (I also think I'll have to tell you that every time I see it) because my parents work with oaks and I grew up harvesting and planting acorns... maybe some day I will find one of my own.
