It seems like at the moment everyone is either sick, or feeling some winter blues. I usually make it to April before joining in on the spring fever (mostly because winter just spills into March and April and spring lasts half a second). But I grew up in the Northwest, so the gray skies are just a normal sight most of the year.
One way to stay sane is to embrace the coziness that comes with winter. My favorite thing to do is brew some tea, toast some bread, and look through the old yearbooks in my collection. No matter how many times I flip through the pages I always notice something new, and get so much wardrobe and hair inspiration.
What have you been doing lately to beat winter blues?
mmhhh - this warm yellow colors! i can feel the cosyness of this moment. :-) i avoid the sickness by living in the woods with not much use of public transportations and a house without central heating. against the blues i go on ski trips or just "wandern" see at http://bahnwaerterhaeuschen.blogspot.de/
Gorgeous photos, especially love the hazy yellow tones in the images. To beat the winter blues, I brew a pot of tea, put on a warm knitted jumper and make a yummy chocolate pudding to nom on.
My favourite way to beat the winter blues is to pop one of my favourite movies on the telly and work on a crochet project while I watch. It never fails!
Tea, toast and a book is definitely the only way to do it. I usually like flipping through my old pattern counter catalogs. I did actually get quite a bit of sewing done once I had a space heater set up next to my sewing machine.
I have been researching paint colors to redecorate my children's bedroom and future playroom. It needs to be done bet April and mid June before it gets too hot here in NY so wking hard on the research. It is def helping with the winter blues! xox
Could you do a tutorial of your make up? I know in your last post you mentioned you use mostly mac products, so do I. Do you have favorites or brush recomendations?
Oh! Bonne Maman, I have no idea that this french jam was also sold in the USA... I'm quite fed up with winter, snow is still there but it cannot bring smile like the first ones in december... So I'm now thinking to our upcoming California trip in about 1 month... Planing a sunny trip is a good idea for fight winter sadness! You can also go to an inside flea market like we went this week-end finding bargain it a good way to smile: http://lostin1950.blogspot.fr/2013/02/successfull-flea-market.html
You look so gorgeous, I adore this dress and your hair is perfection. I luckily have not been hit by the super flu that is going around but I don't want to jinx anything, my fiance however was pretty sick a few weeks back. It is super bright and nice out today so I think I'm going to try to take advantage of that, not many bright Winter days! I love the yearbook too, where do you get them from? Estate sales or thrift stores or something?
Your hair looks so pretty like that! I am new to the Portland area and the winter blues have hit hard! I am ready for spring big time!!!! Tea does help though ;)
Oh my word, your ensemble is just sheer loveliness! I love the colour of your dress as well as the pattern, and the unexpected purple bow in your hair just tops it all off (although purple is opposite of the yellow on the colour wheel, therefore making it just a perfect pairing :-) ). The photos look fresh out of 1941, like you were running through your own high school yearbook a few months after graduation, pondering upon the boys you went to school with and how many of them will be seeing action in the war that has just started. Truly amazing, and certainly something that struck me as having more of a statement to it than the usual "outfit pics" one most often sees. I love it!
I've been a lurker for a bit, but now I've gone and outed myself LOL. Great blog, my dear!
As a mother, I don't have time to feel winter blues. My 4-year old daughter drags me out even when it's frosty as north pole :D We go to ice-skating, sledging a.s.o. At home we bake, do some crafts or watch cartoons. I also have some time to sew her dresses. :P
I completely agree, sometimes it's best to approach the winter with the outlook of "if you can't beat them, join them". Short of having the means to jet of to toasty destinations on a whim, there's not much one can do the change the weather - that's all in Mother Nature's hands.
Love your charming outfit. Purple and saffron look absolutely gorgeous together, and seem like just the right mid-winter colour palette pick-me-up.
Such a delightful post! Always love checking out your blog, even if I can't get to it every day! I have to agree with you, you have to pretend (unless lucky enough) to be in a cottage or cabin in the hills somewhere with everything cosy crammed in including a fireplace. LOVE LOVE LOVE the dress and the Hair! woot woot bxx
Lovely photographs! Well, I cuddle up in the sofa with my favorite blanket and watch documentaries on my computer. Or I play with my hair and try to do different hairstyles I havent tried before..

You look lovely Solanah! :)
This is exactly what I am doing right now. I rarely eat bread unless I feel sickly. Tea and jam toast seem to make everything better.

Beautiful photos! I adore Bonne Maman, my parents buy it for special occasions like Christmas breakfast.
I've been cooking hearty meals to banish the winter blues, I shared some on my blog:

Mmm, tea, toast and reading are my fave things. I even do them in Summer, in front of a fan.
I love to drink tea more recently as opposed to coffee, I also bundle up in slouchy socks with my skirts~

I need to get better at coping with winter blues, but your plan sounds pretty good. That and cuddling with puppies!
