My personal history detectives

 photo Marchfinds140_zps03001019.jpg

When I shared a photo my newly purchased flag last week, some of you spotted that it looks a little odd for a 48 star, and suspected it may be older. Well you were right! Inspecting it closer, three of the stars on the outer edge were hand stitched on, whereas the rest were machine stitched. Making the flag a 45 star dating from 1886-1908.

It had a few patches already, and I've been adding to it all week, I believe it's a woven wool, so it wasn't immune to moths. Can't wait to hang it up!

Thanks for your help, you guys are awesome!

How wonderfully cool! Three cheers for the stealth-eyed history sleuths who spotted that, and that your beautiful flag has held up so very well for being more than a century old.

Happiest St. Patrick's Day wishes, dear gal!

How amazing! I had this once with a book I got in a charity shop thought it was repo but turned out to be a very looked after sewing book complete with patterns from 1936! It even had the slip with the ladies name who had attended a domestic sewing course with it. Tempted to track her down.
Love seeing your casual look could you do a post on vintage casual maybe pants/jeans?i find casual the hardest to do!!

So cool! I have a 48 star flag from 1941 (it was a coffin flag for a soldier). It is one of my prized possessions! I hang it up in every place I've lived and if there was ever a fire in my house it would be one of my take with me items!!
