This week I was at a local antique shop, and while looking through a box of fruit crate labels, I completely missed three Sears catalogues inches from my face on the shelf in front of me. When I finally looked up and saw them I grabbed them and hauled them home. 1945, 1948, and 1955. Spring/summer of 1955 has the most color, and the most spring spirit!

Oh what a dream it would be to find myself in that kind of situation! Lucky gal!!! I've yet to unearth any vintage Sears catalogs in person over the years (and much as I think I've mentioned before about year books), the sky-high shipping costs (to send one to Canada) make buying them online something of a no-go. Hopefully one day your luck will rub off on me! In the meantime, I'll just scroll and rescroll through these gorgeous mid-century fashion filled pages a few (dozen) more times! :)
I wish they would still make these clothes. Or that they would make it a "trend" to dress like this so that vintage obsessed people like me don't have that much trouble to find nice dresses anymore! x
I'm amazed by how timeless these designs are! I saw a white sweater identical to the one in the 4th image at White House Black Market yesterday, and in the mid-80s my mother had a dress exactly like the striped frock in the 7th picture. I suppose 1955 never goes out of style!
We have actually downloaded hundreds of pages from the S&R catalogs via Ancestry.com! They are sooo much fun and are simply eye candy for the vintage lover :) Of course, the real thing is twice as good as a bunch of downloads ;) such neat finds, I must say!
I was very excited to see a fabric swatch on the Signed Originals page. I have a vintage skirt made out of the fabric with the trumpet and drum. So neat to see the ad for it!
Wow, what a find! 50's catalogues would be so fabulous to look through. I happened upon three vintage Eaton's (Canada's answer to Sears, back in the day) catalogues at a flea market recently. Five bucks each, from the mid-70's. Thanks for inspiring me to get 'em scanned!
My sweater! I have the red sweater on the bottom middle, under Year 'Round Classics. It is my absolute favorite vintage sweater. It fits perfectly and goes with everything. How fun to see it new in a catalog and to know what year it's from. Thank you for posting this!
