Spring dress and summer hair

 photo Pinkdress2-1_zps98efe9af.jpg

Right before we moved, Love Ur Look sent me this beautiful spring dress. Lately I've been wearing less and less actual vintage, because I just don't like the wear and tear they take from everyday wear. So I'm always searching for new reproduction lines to try.
Love Ur Look is a great option if you love the mid 50s/early 60s styles. Very colorful, fun prints, and the prices are lower than many reproduction companies.

They achieve that by having their clothing made in India, but before you scoff at the prospect, they are very much a part of the next step in improved clothing manufacturing.

As learned from the book Overdresed, not all Asian factories are sweatshops, and just because something is made in the U.S. it doesn't mean the workers are paid well and treated respectfully *cough*americanapparel*cough*.

You can read more about their standards here, and meet the founder!

The dress fit perfectly in my new kitchen, which was the first part of the apartment to get set up. But more on that later ;)
Oh and I got a haircut. Summer hair! Now if the weather would just cooperate...

You can find the dress right here

I know you said you missed the short vintage hairstyles. Your hair is cute no matter what length it is!!!
I feel the same way about Vintage. EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF VINTAGE I have bought, even the "good" ones, end up getting ripped. It is as if I doom the dress before I buy it. That is why lately I've worn less of it too. I am tired of restitching things. :( laziness.
Your outfit is gorgeous on you and I will check into the company suggested.

P.S. a lot of "Made in US" stuff is indeed created in the "states" that are not included in our states but we own the countries (like Guam and such) and are slave labor. It is great that you mentioned that. I don't think enough people realize in general about where their products are made and by whom.

That dress is so immensely sweet and summery - it just seems cheerful and fun, which is how must summer frocks should feel, if you ask me.

Adore your new haircut! That length is perfection on you. I'm starting to think I might need to buy a second wig for the summer months - something shorter, and thus cooler (this being my first summer as a wig wearer, I can't really say for sure how hot one gets in a longer length wig when the sun is glaring, but I'm sure "pretty hot" is the case), and right around the same length your locks are now, if possible.

I just got my hair cut to that length too, although it looks no way near as good as yours! How do you style it? x

Love your summer hair! I have been debating cutting min off similar to Jenny Lee's hair in Call the Midwife, but I am not sure I am ready to cut off so much. It has taken a long time to get it this length!

Gorgeous dress and summer 'do! I'm turning less to my vintage too as I know its lifespan is limited. That collar is fantastic.

Everything I've seen of your new kitchen is just fabulous!

Love the dress, and the kitchen. You look like the classic mid-century midwife... except less bored!

And I admire your activeness in considering where your clothes have come from. I buy next to all my clothes second hand (not necessarily vintage, but second hand) so I don't necessarily think about where something is made... But I really should put more effort in when looking at shoes and other things I buy new. It's great that you're highlighting such things with your widely-read blog - hopefully it will get more and more people thinking.

I know what you mean about not wanting to wear real vintage. I'm too clumsy an eater to wear vintage without having dress anxiety all day lol. That's why I love sewing with vintage patterns. You get the original designs with the benefit of modern (washable!) fabrics. Love the new hair! :)

The dress is very cute, perfect summer dress.I agree about labels, its best to learn about the companies cause like you said not every thing that is made in the USA is fair and I've been happy to hear about companies in India that are empowering women trying to keep them out of slave wage factories and the sex trade.

Hello, Solanah!

We have that same Betty Crocker cookbook on my end! It belonged to my grandmother back in the '50s--what fun!

Your dress is so cheery and Summery, and you've inspired me to make meself some hair-flowers!

What a beautiful look!!! Thank you for introducing this new (to me) shop! I feel similarly about vintage clothing sometimes, and I love newer reproductions of vintage style clothing. I can't wait to check them out.

You look lovely!! The hair flowers and the gingham are just delightful!!!

I am also beginning to think about repro vintage, although I'm going to take sewing lessons and try my hand at DIY. Lately it seems like all my favorite vintage dresses held a meeting and decided to fall apart at the same time, boohoo!

Hello,
I've bought repo vintage in the past but felt such shame for not always buying 100% vintage (me being hard on myself). I adore repo vintage, the quality is awesomeness to the max! And you are so right about not having to worry to much about the clothing being damaged. Sad one can not get quality clothing like that in most stores. Plus is it really better to but in a store or is shopping online better. For me I like both, which offers a wide range of choices. Thanks Solanah, you have inspired me not to worry to much about having more of a repo vintage wardrobe.

Thanks for the tip on love ur look website. This is exactly my favorite era. I agree with you on the wear and tear of actual vintage, it breaks my heart to wear them sometimes, knowing that it might literally be on its last thread!

Stop by my blog if you can!

Your hair looks really cute. I don't have the guts to chop mine. Plus the other half would be disappointed as he likes longer hair!
The dress looks lovely too (and your kitchen!) I'm the sort of person who has a hot chocolate stain on her 50s swing coat, so a lot of the time I prefer to wear repro instead!

I love this dress - and your haircut is super cute too! It is always refreshing getting a new 'do. I am actually the opposite at the moment - desperately trying to grow my hair! It will probably get to a good length by the summer - at which point I will probably want to cut it all off! Ha!

You've already been told, but the dress, the kitchen, the haircut—all perfectly retro chic!

Like others, I'm getting ready to cut my hair for spring and summer. I would also LOVE to know the length of your cut, and did you just pin curl?

Also, I've been meaning to ask you: do you pin curl your hair up and away from the scalp like it is in a curler (or like a Victory Roll)? Or do you pin it flat against the head like a 1920s spit curl? I can't quite tell from your cute "how to pin curl" entry.

Thanks!

Hello,

I just happened across your blog this morning while doing a "1940s shoe" search.

I think this dress is extremely adorable, and I love your haircut. I have seen these and other of your photos on Pinterest.

I think your kitchen is charming! I love the simplicity. And your dishes are divine.

In your "Moving" post, I saw you fabulous aqua KitchenAid mixer and radio...so pretty! I noticed your tea kettle and other similar accents in this post.

I like your style...love your blog.

:) Hope
