Matanuska Glacier

Last week I spent some time visiting my dad in Alaska, northeast of Anchorage. We did all kinds of sightseeing, from the view looking out his living room window of snow capped mountain ranges, to driving up to Whitter and seeing glaciers from afar and avalanche sights up close. We went to a restaurant at the top of a snowy mountain only accessible by lift, and drove through an area that looked like an extreme version of the Columbia River Gorge.

The most special experience was the Matanuska Glacier, which you can actually hike on and explore. It's completely unreal walking on a vast landscape of ice and snow, the blues and whites reflect light like nothing else, and the silt creates beautiful contrasted patterns. I kept thinking of all the movies that could easily call this the inspiration for it's sets (on Instagram a few people mentioned how much it looked like Interstellar, so I may have to watch that soon).

I hope you enjoy the photos, I certainly loved being there!

That scenery! It's so beautiful. My godmother apparently lives in Alaska, but I haven't visited her because I live in Finland.... :D

This looks incredible! It all sounds amazing but hiking on a glacier sounds absolutely phenomenal. I loved your instagram photos through the trip.

How spectularily awesome!!! I have strong family ties to the arctic, stretching back to one of my great-grandfathers who came north from the States for the Klondike gold rush. He didn't strike it rich, but unlike most, he loved the area enough to not only stay, but to start a (big!) family and spend the rest of his days there. I so hope to visit both the Yukon and Alaska myself one day and hopefully take some great snowy landscape shots like this while there, too.

I hope you had a marvelous trip!
