Waiting for spring

I tried to channel a bit of Alice today, it felt like one of those weird, dark days (gray clouds anyone?). I'm eagerly awaiting some sunny spring days where I can wear cotton dresses without jackets, and I found a darling striped sailor dress today at work I'm dying to wear, but it's definitely a warm weather frock. Sigh.

Today Twila Jean and I had little girls day out-a very WINDY day out! We did some thrifting at our usual places on Hawthorne, and then she took me out to a wonderful lunch at The Bread and Ink Cafe, where I had a mojito and bacon arugula spaghetti (yum!). As you can see the cafe building was originally a cute little Fred Meyer, I'm glad they kept it's vintage charm :)

We both got some really great stuff, she got pretty 40s and 50s dresses for her shop, and I got two hats (one I'm wearing), two pairs of shoes, a snakeskin purse, aaaaaand the most darling Lucy Ricardo style maternity suit from the 50s, even though I'm not preggers. It was too cute to pass up!

In the second picture I was laughing because Twila pointed out how I fit in quite well with the Tokyo girls on the sign, just as a gust of wind rushed by. It was crazy windy all day, we nearly blew away a few times :)

Easter Sunday

This afternoon family and friends met up at my aunt and uncles house for a non traditional Easter meal. They made middle eastern dishes: falafels, pita bread, lamb, tabouli, all from scratch! And my cupcake master cousin made cute easter cupcakes. Since it rained most of the time we did the easter egg hunt inside for the kiddies, which was more like a easter egg rampage than anything.
And for those who follow me on Facebook, here's the Schiaparelli hat talked about! My aunt so generously passed it onto me for my birthday, hatbox, original hangtag and all! It is of course very pretty, with little silk blossoms on a bed of silk chiffon.

Hope you had a lovely weekend!

Windy Easter

Thought I'd do a little post for you gals at home this Easter, just some pics of my outfit this morning to visit some of Sams family. It's so windy! I kind of just threw on some random things, and this jacket and my giant purse on top of it all, so when I caught my reflection in a window I thought I was in the middle of this bag lady editorial. Which is ok with me ;)

Another Easter outfit to come later!

"Fingerwaves"

Photobucket
Last night I had the bright idea of doing an overnight set of fingerwaves. How does one do that you ask?

By not really sleeping.

I pinned my hair up before bed and slept like Lily Munster, waking up about a dozen times and telling myself "don't move your head, you'll mess up your hair..." No pain no gain!

I think it turned out pretty nice, considering there's no product in it, but a little too mild for all that effort (if thats what you call not moving your head). I need a hood dryer so I can do some crazy cool finger waves! Any recommendations?

Day off outfit

I LOVE this style of jacket. I keep coming across them, and passing them by because they're not form fitting, but yesterday I found this one at work and couldn't resist any longer, I had to have it.
It's not a Pendleton 49er, but in that style, I really like the plaid, and the various greens. In the future I'll pair it with a pencil skirt and belt it, maybe add a big ol' rhinestone brooch! But for hanging around the house, and waking to Twila Jeans, some high waist capris and white socks do just the trick ;)
