Cookies and instant relatives
This afternoon I walked over to a local antique mall and had a looksie around. The only thing that caught my eye was a pretty 1920 heirloom cotton dress in white, with white embroidery. It looked so light and breezy. I did spend some time looking through old photos in a box labeled "Instant Relatives" hehe. I am constantly searching for photos of ladies wearing cool hats. No such luck, but I did spot this neat photo of a victorian girl with bangs which I thought was pretty unusual.
I left the store empty handed and decided that I could try my hand at baking once again. It never goes well, I even screwed up sugar cookies once.
But for my bridal shower my mother got me 101 More Things to do With a Cake Mix, and all of the recipes look really simple. And of course the one I made was super easy thanks to the beautiful Kitchenaid mixer she got me. It's the first time I've used it ;)
I made peanut butter cookie sandwiches, and they turned out perfect! So yummy, I wish I could share them with you, but I do recommend the book if you are a beginner baker, or even advanced as they would be super quick and easy.
Later I will post photos of the fabulous dress I made (you're going to love it) and then it is off to see Julie and Julia with my mother. Although I'd better make dinner before that or be very hungry watching all that cooking!
xoxo

that stinkin mixer was one of the ONLY things I registered for at our wedding. and I STIILL DONT have one :(
I am glad you are putting it to good use!
Mmm, that almost looks like a whoopie pie!
Your give-away hat matches your mixer! And those cookies look yummy. I am seeing J/J on Wednesday and cant wait.
Thanks doll,

Oh, those cookie sandwichs look so tasty! I have a Kitchenaid too but mines red, love the color of yours!
Haha, I love that the box of photos was labeled instant relatives. I've thought about purchasing old photos before. I'm still torn between whether it would be fun, or creepy to have them around ;)
Julie and Julia was great!
Those cookies look delish! Love that aqua mixer! I'm tring to justify getting an orange one, even though the white one I have works just fine!!
Great mixer!
I love that they labeled the box "instant relatives."
Can't wait to see the dress!!

That photo you found is lovely. And your cookies look like they turned out really well-love your kitchenaid!

what a gorgeous mixer :D! that cookie looks delicious. i hope you loved the movie! i went and saw it with my mother, too :)
Someone above commented about your cookies looking like whoopie pies and I thought the same! I'm a bit obsessed with whoopie pies lately after reading about them on NY Times. I should try to make them at home, even if I've actually never eaten one...but they look so good!
By the way, the mixer is gorgeous, I can't wait for Julie&Julia and the "instant relatives" box made my day ;-)
I looove peanut butter cookies! My favourite, and taste awesome dipped iin chocolate if you want to be disgusting ;)
During my cake dough kneading marathon on Sunday I was longing for a cake mixer like that.
Brilliant to call displaced family snaps "instant relatives".
I started collecting old photos when I was about 13, archiving photos of my own family and rescuing lost strangers from car boot sale shoeboxes. :-)
I got a Kitchenaid for my wedding too! My MIL gave me (well, "us", but I use it! lol) a bright, cherry red mixer. I love it! It's going to be perfect in my one day, dream black and white with red accents kitchen. lol!
Looking at the cookies you made is making me crave "whoopie pies" (don't know if they're known outside of the East Coast. Basically they're the same concept: usually a chocolate cookie sandwich with icing in the middle. So decadent!). hehe!
A friend of mine got me the Cake mix book from a garage sale for a $1. Baking is my favorite thing to do but I haven't cracked it open yet :/
I just love that the photos are labelled 'Instant Relatives'! That's so charming.
Ooh, that mixer's cute! My mum still has her mixmaster from when she got married in 1967.

Be still my heart, a Kitchaid mixer, and in aqua to boot! Your kitchen is officially wildly stylish :D
Those cookies look fabulous, I've got some chocolate angel food cake that I whipped up, would you care to swap a cookie for a slice? :)
Big hugs & happy Tuesday!
♥ Jessica
That mixer in that color is on my wishlist. How jealous am I...but I'm glad you're putting it to good use! Yum!
Old photos...I love them.
Great choice for the mixer color...I've got a pink one and I adore it! I also used to have trouble with baking but I just kept trying different recipes. Now I enjoy it and bake everything from scratch. So as a former baking screw-up I can tell you to just keep mixing. :)
