Lets talk about pants.
Pants are one of those things I love, but only the right ones. They have to be interesting in some way, even if they are as simple as a pair of black cigarette pants. Usually what sets vintage pants apart from modern ones is where the waist sits, back then it was, well, at the waist, and now it has settled just above the hips. And I have to say, for many women, having a line right across the widest part of your figure is not exactly flattering. Just saying. I look very different in high waist pants and hip hugging ones, the latter cut that curve of the lower back right in half, instead of enhancing it. Next time you go shopping for pants, try on not only varying leg widths, but waist placement. It doesn't have to be up so high you look like Urkle, but something that doesn't make you flash everyone in sight when you kneel down would be great.
And don't even get me started on muffin tops.
All I'm saying is pants are much more difficult to fit to your unique figure than skirts, a style on one person will not look the same on her best friend.
On another note, I had a great hair day today, see the wave? Yay for pin curls.

You nailed it, sister. A mid to high pant waist can do wonders for most of us real women.
Such a cute outfit and I want my hair to do that!!! I really need to find some higher waist jeans. I think in order to do that though, I'll have to have them made and no telling what that will cost :/
Your hair is so darling
Perfect fall outfit! I wear the exact same thing!
I agree, it is terribly frustrating sometimes to find pants that fit just right.
Adorable outfit, and your hair looks so cute, your pincurls turn otu so perfectly!
Oh I absolutely agree on waist placement. I kind of like high-waisted pants too. I look awkward in pants, but I think if I could find the perfect pair of Audrey pants, life would be complete.
It must be said that some muffin tops are hilarious.
Well said! Right pants are the most difficult clothing piece to find...
Kendra, Sam and I sing that every time we see a muffin top.
Sometimes too loud....
I agree with you about the hip-hugging pants. As a girl with a bit of a rubenesque figure, they do nothing to flatter my shape!
As an aside - what shade of lippy are you wearing? I've been admiring it for a few weeks and keep forgetting to ask!
Thanks :)
Today it was a mix of Chanel "Red Velvet" and MAC "Lady Bug". Sometimes I'll use Revlon "Really Red". All great reds.
I was saying exactly the same thing the other day.
I don't wear trousers often as I find them really unflattering. I have a small waist and wide hips so I really struggle with modern trousers.
i can't remember the last time I wore pants! Though, when I do they have to be high waisted! I remember when I was a teen though the lower my jeans were the better, lol, eww! glad I'm over that! :o)
Love the shoes! :)
thank you for this posted, it really needed to be said! sadly though, finding good vintage pants is difficult!
Ew Yuckie to Muffin Tops! Even worse, when ya get the gals that are above and beyond muffin top. Is there a term for that, yet? Loaf top maybe? *shudder*
I definetly agree that finding pants is the most frustrating part of wardrobe shopping. Not just for myself, but for my kids as well. I have to get the pants with adjustable elastic waistbands, or my kids spend all day holding their pants up.
Your hair looks like it turned out wonderfully!
Honestly, you shouldn't worry about offending anybody by singing Muffin Top too loud. Heck, the folks deserving of the serenading don't seem too worried about offending anybody else.
I absolutely agree - high waist trousers are SO much more flattering. The problem is, even when I find them, the waist to hip ratio never works for me since my waist is really small and my thighs aren't! I generally just avoid trousers altogether for this reason. You look fabulous in them, though. It's such a glamorous look.
I have such trouble spotting vintage pants (or maybe I just haven't come across any yet). I have much more trouble "dating" pants, unless I try them on and can see where the waist sits, what the legs look like, etc.
I would love to find a late '50s/early '60s pair of cigarette pants, like Mary Tyler Moore wore in the Dick Van Dyke Show... maybe someday I'll stumble onto a pair.
agreed. i am getting into the idea of custom jeans. they exist and i am excited to get my first pair!
though your vintage jeans are pretty amazing!
I completely agree with you!! I am in constant search of cute 40's trousers and 50s's jeans that sit perfectly on the waist! Any ideas where they can be found?? I am very tempted to order a pair of custom made jeans from the net! love your blog!! xxx
Your just so cute. How old are you?
Miss English Rose, I'm not sure where to get some that don't look too 1970s, perhaps a repro vintage line.
Cloeisabear, Thanks ;) I'm 20.
