Quick and easy vintage hairdos
"I was wondering if you could suggest to me any really quick and easy retro hairstyles (not cuts) for just over shoulder length hair and a thin fringe. When I'm at college I have to wear a basic black skirt suit and plain jumper, the only way I've managed to inject a bit of retro is through my black brogues! :( I have to wear this a lot of the time and would love to inject a bit more of my character rather than the usual: meaning to do a cool hairstyle but always ending up doing the same ole pony tail....
Love the blog as always, any reply would be fab
Keep up the good work

During WWII women turned to creative hairstyles to add some flair to their rationed wardrobes. Hair piled high in curls, waves, loops and rolls, an interesting hairstyle added panache to an otherwise tired look! Having a small wardrobe, or uniformed lifestyle (school, office) means hair plays a big part in expressing your creativity. With a little practice you can master a few favorite styles that look complicated but are actually really easy!

Gasp! I love love love all these looks! I think the high ponytail is the most realistic hair aspiration for me, but they're all really beautiful.
love all that styles!but how you do them?
i would love to see a hair do instruction post!!
Noitillfem's hair is gorgeous! Makes me want to go red! But my hubby has red hair. Would that be too weird???
I love the pin curls piled on top of the head!! lovely!
how perfect. I LOVE that high bow hairstyle. thank you, thank you!
I still need to try the bandana
hair do. I bought the most beautiful bandana to try it out.
ah! I really love the last one with the braids (I have long hair so I like to see hair styles that you can do with all my hair! :D)
The cute redhaired one is not niotillfem. It's Elsa and you can find her here: http://elle.se/bloggar/elsa-billgren.aspx
Braids were my constant friend for the past few weeks, much like the last photo, until I finally got my hair trimmed this week. ;) One of my favorite styles 'cause it's so easy to do first thing in the morning.
Thanks for including me in the roundup--what a delightful surprise! hehe! ;)

What a great piece of inspiration for the weekend! Thank you!
I'd like to add a very cool how-to by Iris, on a hairdo inspired by Joan in Mad men: http://irisbersa.blogspot.com/2010/01/mad-men-hair-how-to.html although I just realised it's only in Swedish...I've ran most of the text through Google translations, and it's quite understandable, but not very correct grammar of course. The only thing it gets completley wrong is "luggen" which is the bangs (comes up as fore-lock on it's own, but "the pile" for some strange reason i a sentence).
I haven't treied it yet, but am itching to =)
What a great selection of hairstyles. Your right about the victory rolls too! Once I practiced about 3 times, they're a breeze. I just posted a tute for fingerwaves last week, which is also incredibly simple if you practice and can be speeded up by cheating with a hairdryer: http://vavoomvintage.blogspot.com/2010/01/fingerwave-tutorial-soft-waves.html
I have quite a few quick vintage hair tutorials for sholder length hair as well:

I am going to check out the ones you listed right now for some more ideas!
Thanks doll,

love the ponytail!
this makes me want to do video tutorials of hair-ho-tos as I'm constantly asked. :: sigh :: Thanks for inspiring me to work on them for once (hopefully I will too). These are lovely.
thank you for posting these! i'm always stuck on my hair, especially because i ravage it so with straighteners and curling irons. thanks again!
These are great, if you can find tutorials of how to do them it would be even greater! Thanks for these! xx
Peldyn, It might depend on the shade of red, I mean if you two were both the same color, it would be odd, people would think you were siblings. Although it might be funny to kiss in public and see people's reaction ;)
Betty Lou, thanks! I got the picture from Niotilfem, but I'll make sure and link to Elsa.
Yay! Thank you, dahling Solanah! How come I can hardly ever find great links and tutorials on my own? Geez.
put some hair coloring in it. i think colorings will make it more attractive.i like 3rd one. its more beautiful.
They are all gorgeous! I would love to see a hair do instruction post as well!!!!
