I Capture The Castle

Photobucket
In school I used to use study time in classes to sneak to the library and read historical fiction.
I was quite the scoundrel.
Just before school was out one year I spent some sunny days reading I Capture the Castle, a book about a young girl in the mid 30s who lives in a crumbling English castle with her family, as they wait for her father to write another bestseller. The film adaptation is currently on Netflix instant watch, if you need a bit of 1930s english inspiration.

Yes! I was really excited when I found a copy of this at a closing DVD rental place for 3$.

Have you seen Glorious 39? It took a turn at one point that I did not like at ALL (It was a very, what movie has this turned into :( I wanted the opposite of this) but oh my god, the clooooothes. I fall down and whimper.

Oh, I adore this film!

I've read the book and seen the movie at least 3 times each. I'm not sure why it is so attractive to me, but I really love it. The costumes are a lot of fun.

I saw this movie a few months ago but never realized that it was a book first. I always end up liking the book far more than a film adaptation, so I'm sure I would adore the book! Lovely film stills.
XOXO

I Capture the Castle is my favorite book! My Aunt gave it to me for my 16th birthday and I read it once every year. I love the movie adaptation as well. Romola Garai is one of my favorite actresses too so that made the movie better!

That's basically my dream to live in a castle. Will definitely be watching this I love Romola Garai, I wonder if you have seen The Crimson Petal and the White?

I love the book but now I definitely have to check out the film, it all looks so dreamy. I always worry about seeing my favourite characters reinterpreted on screen but Romola Garai and Rose Byrne are some very capable hands!

One of my favorite movies! I've been wanting to do a post on it for some time now. It's so nice to find others who like the same films I do.

The movie is pretty to look at but I think it missed the wonderful spirit of the book which is utterly charming.

Ooh, I definitely want to check this film out. I like Romola Garai. Have you seen 'The Crimson Petal and the White'? It was a recent BBC costume drama starring RG. A bit 'sensational for the sake of it' at times, but worth a watch.

I've had the movie on my instant watch list for ages, and still haven't watched it! But looking at these captures I really should make time... ;)

Have you read "We Have Always Lived in the Castle"? You will enjoy it. I don't know if they made a movie tho.

This was one of my very favorite books when I was about 12!! I still love it. And of course I could always do with some 1930s english countryside inspiration, so I'll have to watch this now!

I started watching and oh my lord you should have warned us that Henry Cavill is in it!

Love love love the book and the movie - probably one of the best book-to-movie adaptations I've ever seen. (And Henry Cavill is super-dreamy :D)

I stood at the bookstore trying to debate whether or not to buy the book or check it out from the library. I decided I'd open it to the first page and just read a little and let that decide. As soon as I'd read the first sentence I'd decided I had to have that book! I can't wait to see the movie!

Ooh I loved this book, went out and bought the movie after I read it and surprisingly really liked it - usually I'm v critical of adaptations but Rose Byrne was so good, and Romola Garai is one of my faves anyway! :)

I love this book & movie. Since I first saw it, I've wanted Rose's outfit and beret she wears when she's sitting on the bench with Neil. It's 30's casual-day perfection!

This is one of my most favorite books! I don't know If i could watch the movie because I love it so much and don't want my perception of it to change based on the movie. (if that made sense)
