My first Civil War reenactment!
Saturday morning we headed to Fort Stevens for a Civil War reenactment. It was fantastic! The battle reenactment itself was great, but I really enjoyed just walking around the encampment and going picture crazy with all the people in Civil War era clothing. And the shopping was fun too :) I got a bonnet, Sam refrained from buying a sword, and by brother got a tintype, and actual tintype!
Yaquina Photography had a booth set up there with period authentic photography.
So cool, but odd that Josh's tattoos didn't show up in the tintype. I still don't get why...
These photos are so beautiful. They tell a story all on their own, no words are needed. I especially love the men's plaid trousers(!), and your brother's tin type is a wonderful keepsake!
I have really enjoy'd this post. I would love to go to something like this. It just takes you back to a whole other time. Thank you so much for sharing your day and awesome photography :)

Looks like such fun! I have a theory as to why his tattoos didn't show up: the green and red wouldn't be visible (think people who are colour blind). That said, I could be completely wrong.
I LOVE this! I've wanted to go to a civil war reinactment for so long! and your photos just make me want to all the more! I'd have to go to a neighboring state to visit one, but it looks so amazing and full of painting inspiration!~
We used to go to Civil War reenactments (and Revolutionary War ones, too!) at least once a month for years and years when we lived on the East Coast. Your photos brought back some great memories.
Wonderful photos of this event! I enjoyed reenacting in the 9th Virginia when I lived in Oregon. Ft Stevens was always the best one of the seasons. Again, I must say your photos are a delight
Great photos! I'm a Civil War reenactor so I love seeing it get some spotlights! I was also at the 150th Manassas and was portraying a soldier...it was quite warm but unforgettable!
That is so strange.. that his tattoos didn't show up... I'm really curious as to WHY now! Looks like such a fun day! We (in the Netherlands) don't have anything like this, as far as I know. Great pictures! Thank you for sharing! Sarah (the Dutch one)

Do you know the name of the tin type photographer? I am on in Olympia and am trying to find others in the area. Colours in tintypes and wet plate collodion show up differently, for example yellow shows up as black, so that probably has something to do with it.
What lovely photos! My parents are Civil War reenactors with NWCWC (the org. that puts on this event), and would have been there if not for my mom recovering from foot surgery. You would've loved them; my dad reenacts a fire company chief and they are among the best-dressed civilians, IMO. I reenacted from age 8 'til about 17 or 18, but still occasionally visit the camps as an adult. Even got my hubbie to dress up one time! It is another world, for sure. So glad to hear you went and enjoyed it!
