How to tie an easy turban
This scarf is just one of those modern cotton (or in this case rayon) scarves that are everywhere, in every color, made from jersey and generally worn in a cowl style around the neck. I love these things, and I love the cowl look, but am always a bit disappointed because that's the only way I ever see the scarves used. They're so versatile!
So here's a little tutorial on how to wrap one into a very sleek turban, but this is just one way! Play with it a bit and you'll find endless possibilities!
Center it flat on your head... 
...twist the sides a bit... 
...then bring the sides up, cross...
...and twist.
Bring down on the sides... 
...and around the back. 
Then bring the ends up and tuck into the twisty top bit, where the arrow is.
Pull out the top middle portion, the bit under the twists, and stretch forward. 
Pull up and above the twists, and tuck.
And there you have it! Don't even need any pins! Perfect for bad hair days ;)

How long/wide are these scarves...? I have big square ones, and the long rectangle ones that are about the size of a beach towel....that kind is too wide/thick for this :(
The long rectangle ones are best, they should be fine for working into a turban, as more volume can just be an added bonus, however this one is just a thin stretchy jersey, so not too much volume.

I have just started wearing my silk scarves as a turban. Your way made it seam alot easier and i may try a jersey scarf next time as silk just slides everywhere! Great post, thank you!

I love the color!! I did a tutorial like this, using a sqaure scarf, folded into a triangle and it worked really well as long as the scarf wasn't too slippery. I think mine was silk. I'll have to keep my eyes out for a rectangle one like this. The added bulk at the front is so cute!! x

Whoa, this has changed my wardrobe's life! I have a million of those long scarves (relatives always give them to me for presents) but I don't care for the "cowl" look myself, and now I finally have a fabulous use for them. Thank you <3

If you find a good scarf iy's quite easy to be able to do a nice turban, but I have numerous vintage scarves with which I cannot do anything!!!! This color is really good on you... not so suitable for my blond hairs...
I love this idea! I have hundreds of old scarves from the 40s and now I know exactly what to do with them! I wore this turban style yesterday and unfortunatly was ridiculed and made fun of the whole day by my family. They thought it looked silly. I was so mad! It's super cute! They just don't know anything do they?

Do you pull your hair back first? I have long-ish REALLY thick hair and I find it doesn't behave when I try to wrap it..
Yeah, I pin my hair up first, evenly so there's no big lump like a ponytail
I don't know what kind of scarf this is so please can I have the measurements so I can make one myself.I don't think that fashion made it here in N.Z.
Fantastic! I love the look of turbans, most of them I find online are a bit cheapy looking and wont hold my hair. I always use scarves for headwear. Since most of the time I use slippery fabric, I just pin the back of the scarf to my head while wrapping,then take it out when Im done.

I just tried it and am having real difficulty with the first couple of steps... the bit where you lift up the sides and twist - it just doesn't stay on my head :( It worked once, but I couldn't do it again! Any hints?
