Screencaps from here
This past couple of days have been cozy, rainy days, full of tea, and costume dramas. Which of course, must include some Jane Austen. I can't decide if I like this version, or the latest BBC version better, both are excellent.
This film makes me want to move to the English country, where sheep cover hillsides, and I can wear gauzy empire dresses and straw bonnets tied with ribbon. And have tea aaaaalllllll the time. And eat dinner by candlelight. And have a writing desk.
Actually, these are just things I want anyway, but this film just justifies the beauty of it all :)

* smile * I adore Jane Austen!
One of my all time favorites!!!
I like this version, but I think I like the latest BBC one more, simply because they were able to fit in more of the story!
Wow!! Photos are just amazing!! Thanks for sharing.
Both versions are amazing. I am slightly more keen on movieversion, although I simply love the BBC-version as well as it's longer and fits in much more yummyness.
Pride and Predjudice!!! With Colin Firth. I think it was a BBC Production. Oh. Now I know what I'm going to do to celebrate being done with grading papers. :)
Ahh Jane Austen! Always makes me dream of far off places and elegant dresses. I have to say, I love this version.. but that could just be because of Hugh Grant/Emma Thompson/Kate Winslet combo.. is there anything more English??

Oooh I love this version too! My favourite part is the atlas scene =D
I haven't seen the newest version, but this particular one has always been one of my favorite movies. I don't think I ever tire of watching it! In fact, I had just been thinking I was in the mood for a rewatch, and then your post popped up... A hint from the universe perhaps?! lol.

hey solanah :) not sure if i have commented yet, but i have been loving your blog for the past 2 weeks! you're gorgeous doll!
i live in Bath, UK - home of jane austen herself! if you visit england, come here. i do indeed walk around in empire dresses, pick wild flowers and dream about mr darcy...! well i do have tea all the time at least.
love! xx
I love this movie too! The mood and scenery were probably my favorite things in the scenes. Jane austen is brilliant!
I adore Austen and Sense and Sensibility is my favourite of her novels. I adore this version, which to me is perfection in mood, editing of the plot, and delicately wry tone. I have a younger sister I'm very close to and every time I watch it I tear up when Eleanor begs Marianne to survive the fever. Sniff. Thanks for posting beautiful stills!
Beautiful idealism of Uk, but you are more likely to come accross, mass unemployment, chavs, drunks, ugg boots and track suits!
This is one of my favorite Austen movies! Definitley this version. Emma Thomsen and Alan Rickman, they would make any movie worth seeing =)
I love these books and films! And while I still haven't realized my dream of being an extra in a period film, maybe one day I'll get there! In the meantime, I bought an Austen-esque sundress from Snoozer Loser's recent sample sale that I just love. Now I need a garden party to wear it to!
I loved the recent BBC one so much, especially their lovely little windswept cottage. And I actually liked the actors better too. But really, anything Austen is ok in my book :)
Oh, my word!!! I am totally in love with this movie!!!! You should totally see Emma, but the newest BBC version. It's a mini-series. It's wonderful.
I love this movie!!

This post is killing me...how badly I want to stay home from work with a cosy cup of tea and costume dramas, while (whilst?) listening to the rain outside.
I just watched this yesterday! :) I think I prefer the BBC version (quite possibly because I saw it first) but I do own this version. My friends and I are going as characters from Pride and Prejudice next year for Halloween (we're starting a bit early, I know) so I've been in a Jane Austen-y mood lately. :)
In this version, everyone casted is too old. Elinor and Marianne are supposed to be like 21 and 18, respectively. Though these ladies are lovely, they look too old! I haven't seen the BBC version but I may watch it this holiday. I LOVE Jane Austen. If you ever want to shoot the shit about Jane Austen, seriously email me.
Loveeeeeeeeeeeee!
I personally like the new BBC version much better. Not only do they go into more character depth, I also enjoy the extra DVD they included when you buy this movie! It’s a BBC masterpiece about Jane Austin, far better then Becoming Jane (mainly because it takes place after her first love with Tom Lefroy, and I felt that they really showed more about Jane Austin as a person.)
I think you should watch Lost In Austin! It’s a great movie about a girl from today falling into Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice. Really funny and cute!
Alan Rickman makes the perfect Colonel Brandon, at least in my opinion! I love his voice and smile! ;-)
Hi! Just wanted to say that I love Jane Austin too! However, unless you already have the publishers permission to use the images from the movie, this is a violation of copyright. I wouldn't want you to get caught & have to pay any fines!
I have to choose this version because of Alan Rickman.
ginkotree, that sounds wonderful! I've always wanted to go to Bath, someday I will!
Anonymous, these screencaps came from a public site, where anyone can use them. If I were to publish them and sell them, then I would need permission from the site.
awww I loved this movie too. I reviewed it months ago! I can't believe I took so long to see it too. Bath was such a famous place to go to in it's heyday. I wonder if people go there a lot still today. I remember reading a book earlier this year about william wilberforce and he went there a lot as well. interesting.
I LUUUUVVV S&S! seriously, Emma Tompson and hugh Grant are great. Never seen the BBC version, but hard to imagine that anything could top Ang Lee's version.
I've been on a historical drama kick myself, watching PBS's Regency House Party and Little Women.
This movie is incredible, like all the movies and series which are somehow involved Jane Austen or/and her characters. :)
She was so amazing woman, and I watch "Becoming Jane" or "Pride and Prejudice" (with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle) almost every time I want to see somenthing romantic.. Real love stories... Thank you for this post, made me smile and now I want to see this movie again and couple of others.. :D
