Inside my purse

Photobucket
Sometimes I see photos of things inside girls purses, and it's always a few cute little items, generally lipstick, phone, wallet, and keys. Well, I carry around a big ol' granny bag about 98% of the time, and this is all the junk on one random day I decided to take a picture, and my justification for everything:

1. L.A.M.B. Makeup bag (Holds my makeup so my powder doesn't open and coat the inside of my purse. It's happened)
2. Chanel lipstick (best lipstick ever)
3. Paul and Jo lipstick (also great)
4. Bert's Bees chapstick (for the love of smooth lips, don't use anything with petroleum jelly in it.)
5. Maybelline lipstain (works great, especially for days when I need chapstick, but want red lips)
6. Smashbox lip pencil (for base touch ups)
7. Vintage ring box (just in case I need to hold rings. Duh.)
8. "Emma" by Jane Austen (Jane Austen should always be within reach)
9. Molesine notebook (Sometimes I need to draw kitties)
10. Mini sewing kit (I wear vintage, it's a must have)
11. Vintage handkerchief (so I can drop it on the sidewalk and men will pick it up...not)
12. Keys (to unlock secret gardens)
13. Neiman Marcus shoe shapers (ok, maybe those need to be in some shoes...)
14. Phone (Because I like carrying around a half working phone)
15. Receipts (I buy things)
16. Extra camera battery (Don't want to run out of batteries just in case I see Bigfoot)
17. Rubber bands (to fling at annoying people)
18. Bobby pins (every girl who pincurls her hair knows bobby pins are always everywhere. EVERYWHERE.)
19. Ted Lapidus pheasant scarf (to protect from rain and wind. Haha, no, it just looks awesome)
20. Vintage heart combs (just in case it's Valentines day and I don't remember)
21. Coach mini measuring tape (there are always pretty dresses to measure)
22. Rhinestone belt buckle (instant fabulous)
23. Passport (for those days I just need to hop a plane to Rome)
24. Longchamp wallet (holds multiple gift cards with only 98 cents left on them)
25. Vintage compact (for shiny noses checking lipstick)

Oh, and my camera, but it was taking the picture, sooo.....yeah.

Hahaha well, if you ever do get that picture of Bigfoot, I hope you'll share it on your blog!

I never pin curl my hair, but I still have bobby pins everywhere :) They're just too handy

Is #11 channeling another book by #8!! I got an iphone just so I could carry all of Jane Austen's books around with me all the time!!!

So right about the bobby pins! Sometimes I find them on the floor of my apartment and just secure a loose hair on the go.

Interesting post! I sometimes carry a bunch of random things myself : ). How about a post on what typical vintage items cost? In the previous post you mentioned most things were incredibly overpriced. Im just wondering :)

I advice you to not carry your pasport with yo everywhere like that. My husband is an Id theft consultant and people get their id stolen like that, especially a passport. People call him to ask for help and passport, birth certficate along with Social securty card big no no! I like your blog and the things you carry, very cute vintage items.

Solanah said...

Anonymous, my passport is my only identification, so I always must have it with me. Also not kidding about the travel part, you never know when you might need to hop a plane!

Lee Lee said...

This may be a stupid question, but what are shoe shapers? :)

Solanah said...

Things you put inside your shoes to help them keep shape.

Thanks Anonymous - that was a really helpful comment.

Thanks for the post Solanah! It's good to know I'm not the only one carrying around a Granny bag full of stuff. Always love visiting your blog xo

Thanks for the look inside your bag, loved it! The little sewing kit is so cute. Also, I'm happy I'm not the only one with a lot of stuff in my handbag that needs rather inventive justifications =)

Wow, Anonymous number two is a jerk.

I carry around loads of junk too, it annoys me because I can't carry cute little handbags. Always MUST have a novel, but I aso take my lunch to work which takes up loads of room.

I always love seeing what other gals carry around with them! I especially love the idea of the sewing kit... I may have to steal that because there is more than one instance I wished I had a needle and thread to make a quick repair... lol. And the comment about the hairpins--hilariously true! My husband says they multiply spontaneously around here. ;) There are always at least a couple in the deep corners of whatever handbag I'm carrying... lol.

How fun! :) I also carry a huge bag that holds a ridiculous amount of stuff. Occasionally, I carry one of my tiny vintage handbags that holds Burt's Bees chapstick, gum, and my driver's license-that's it. :)

I agree that Austen should never be far. :) I usually carry a book with me, too. I need to start carrying a sewing kit and a little tape measure!

I always joke that I'm like that witch from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons who leaves a trail of hairpins behind her everytime she flies ;)

cool, I love seeing these posts - and love the fact I'm not the only one carrying a lot of stuff around :D x

Comments can come across as hurtful, But sometimes others can see things in us that we can't see for ourselves.

Anonymous said...

oh give me a break anonymous! who are you to judge her? leave her alone! she has the right to do what she pleases!
Your comment is not the kind which help advance, it's just a point blank judgment because you don't seem to like her. There is a different between explanation and one word "contrived". I find that hateful!
what's contrived about this girl? she is the most spontaneous person.
Okay, so I agree that the passport can be your only Id and you need to carry it on with you but it's risky. I just say that to help not to judge. Take care

I was just telling my husband that the contents of my purse are those of an eighty-year-old. I pin curl my hair, so I always have a scarf in my purse to protect it from humidity, wind or rain. Plus, it really embarrasses my mother when she visits. ;-)

that sewing kit is adorable....where did you find it?

I love the fact you carry an extra camera battery just in case you see Bigfoot! Actually, Oregon is quite a hub for Sasquatch sightings. That's one pic I want to get when I visit Portland one day! :) Love the Chanel lipstick too! Is that the red you always wear?

I love the book 'Emma' by Jane Austen- one of my all time favourites. I can't believe you carry so much around! You must have really strong arms (lol) :)

Had to laugh at the measuring tape - I carry one everywhere too - invaluable for shopping!

And Chanel is indeed the best lipstick :)

I love these kinds of posts. Thanks for sharing. Oh, and your justifications for carry all of your things are too funny/cute.

Your descriptions of why you carry these things really had me cracking up! i love it!

that is one major puse you need to carry all!

WEll, petroleum jelly works well if you have truly, really bad lips. Like, the its-twenty-below and thirty below with windshield and the wind is going thirty miles and an hour all winter long. So. Um, for Wyoming. Its too greasy in the summer.

Nina said...

Of course you need all that in your purse! Especially that wonderful vintage compact ♥

Kate, the sewing kit came from Fred Meyer!

The Witchery Vintage, I wear it often, but change it every day, almost all my lipsticks are red and need to be used before they dry up!

Kristian, hehe, yeah, you guys do have pretty extreme weather! I used to use a very popular lip balm and I kept having to apply it every ten minutes and my lips would still flake. Then I read in a magazine that with constant use petroleum jelly actually dries out your lips! Crazy! So I switched to a bees wax balm, and it works great. But maybe I just have super sensitive skin :)

Solanah... I know I'm commenting very late on this post, but can you tell me what type of Chanel lipstick you use? You always look so beautiful in these photos and I've yet to find a "good" classic red lipstick for myself. Is it the Rouge Coco that you recommend?? Thanks much!

Solanah said...

Jennifer, it's a discontinued color, but the other reds look just as great!
