Backless dress of a burlesque dancer

Photobucket
This dress was waiting for me at Re-Runs Vintage in Kansas City. It was meant to be mine. It was part of a collection from a woman who was a burlesque dancer in the 1930s and 1940s, unfortunately I didn't see what I can imagine would be amazing costumes, as this was one of the last frocks of hers left. I am glad I snapped this up, isn't it great? The front seems so nice and proper, but the back! Peek-a-boo!

Beautiful!I love the colours and the cut of the bodice! Excuse this if it seems a bit TMI-ish, but what kind of bra to you wear with this? I love open backs like this, but can never find a bra that will work! You look amazing in it though!

A burlesque dancer!! How exotic! I'm so glad you snatched up one of her dresses; they're so darling! And the peekaboo detail = thumbs up. :) You definitely can work it, girl.

Love the dress, love the shoes, love the bracelets, love the history and love the blog!! Oh, and does the vintage shop where you got it have an online store? Here in Tallahassee, Fl. the vintage clothing options are very limited (especially for someone like me who likes to wear two or three outfits each day!) :)

you can check out the blog that my sister and I write at

We would love to hear what you think of it :)

That is seriously beautiful Solanah, and wonderful to see the floral pattern hasn't faded over the years!

It would be a shame if a dress like this was just left to gather dust, so I'm sure the former owner would be thrilled to see a vintage enthusiast such as yourself in it!

Thanks to you (and Fleur), I'm currently on the hunt to acquire more plastic bangles--I'm dying to try the stacked look but don't have enough yet! ;)
