Simple cracker recipe

Photobucket
Here's a simple cracker recipe adapted from a 1997 issue of Martha Stewart magazine.

It's very easy, and you can even make the dough ahead of time and roll it out the next day.

1 Cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 Tablespoon unsalted butter, cut up
1/3 Cup + 1 Tablespoon milk

Preheat oven to 325 Fahrenheit

Use food processor to pulse flour, salt, pepper, and sugar.
Add butter, pulse until mixture looks grainy.
With machine running, gradually pour in milk until you have dough.
(sometimes I add a little more flour if it's too sticky)

On a lightly floured surface roll out dough, to a thin sheet.
Use a pizza cutter to slice dough into squares.
Transfer to ungreased baking sheet.
(I use a cast iron skillet)
Poke the crackers with a fork and bake for 20-25 minutes.

Voila!
Just add cheese :)

Yum!!! Can't wait to make some. For some reason I thought it would be difficult to make, but the recipe isn't bad at all!

Thanks for posting!

what a great idea! I'm trying to eat as little 'ready made' stuff at the moment as possible, I don't eat much but stuff like crackers I never even thought to make.

This recipe looks great! I've just started making my own homemade crackers, and it's a terrible, wonderful thing.

Because I am a lazybones, I roll my crackers out on a sheet of tin foil, slice them, and just pop them into the oven still on the foil. (Parchment paper might also be a thing.) I'm a klutz when it comes to moving around fiddly bits of dough, so this makes it so much easier.
