1939-40 yearbook

Photobucket
Latest estate sale find: Local yearbook from Vancouver High, 1939-40.

I have a few yearbooks, but not from around here, so it was so much fun to look through it!

With family knowledge we figured out that the high school it's from used to stand right where our last apartment was, before it was torn down for real estate development.

And the owner went to middle school in the building where I went to high school.

Small world!

The top photo is my favorite, and now a 40s Vancouver High School Letterman sweater is top on my list of must finds.

Tucked in the pages of the book were a few cards, a newspaper from 1939, photos, and a felt patch. I think it's a basketball? Maybe a baseball, not sure. It looks like they had a basketball team, but I couldn't find a list of who had what number.

Can't wait to sew it on something :)

This is such a treasure! I love old year books. I have a local yearbook from 1929 and it has my great-great aunt in it, her junior year. I love seeing the hairstyles and outfits. Just amazing....I love the 40s, I bet a 1940s yearbook is full of great fashion inspiration!

This is amazing, I love the pictures and thanks so much for sharing them with us. You know I don't have a yearbook from my entire high school experience, sometimes I regret it but I didn't have the best high school experience. I wonder if Ms. Elaine Eberle is still alive and what her life was/is like.

Awesome find! I remember looking at my dads yearbook from the early 60s once.

The patch looks like a baseball or softball to me because of the stitching. It's really neat either way!

Very fun! Did you also know that the Walgreens on the corner of 4th Plain/Main Street used to be a Hi-School Pharmacy which was originally named "High School Store," complete with a soda fountain! When they added a pharmacy to the location, the name changed appropriately.

How awesome! We have a couple late-30s yearbooks from my town's high school in the historical society archives (where I work) and they're one of my favorite things to page through between projects or on breaks. Such a cool window-into-world...

One google search on the name "Elaine Eberle" showed this obituary from 2009. I'll bet this is who the book belonged to..

How cool! I love the page with all of the guys where they all look very sporty and then at the very end there is the guy with the suit! It kind of made me laugh! =)

That is %100 a baseball.
You can tell from the stitching on the ball.

This is so amazing! You should save that baseball patch to sew onto that 40s varsity sweater when you find it ;)

That patch is definitely a baseball. What an awesome find. I love old photos....makes you wonder where they all are now, and what their lives were like. It would be interesting to do some research and see what happened to Elaine.

What a stellar find! I'm also drawn to items centered around my locale, and have long hoped to find a vintage yearbook from these parts. No luck yet, but as this post proves, there's all the tantalizing possibility that it might happen! Thank you for sharing this great vintage yearbook, it was a delight to see.
