1930s jacket

I just know this cute little jacket had a matching skirt or dress once. It always makes me sad to know when pieces have been separated, and mad when I see a set being sold separately at a vintage shop. I don't understand how a true vintage lover can do that to a perfectly good outfit. I'm all about matching things, be it suits, hats and purses, shoes and belts, if it's vintage and it matches, chances are I'll love it. Maybe one day I'll find the matching skirt, you never know!

That jacket is very pretty, also your boots. I know how you feel about people separating vintage clothes, I saw a girl in burdastyle who modified a 40's dress to wear in her wedding!! I don't know why people do such things! They don't know their value!

I love how "30s sportswear" this outfit looks!!! :D The shape of the jacket is just amazing; I really love 30s jackets. That's too bad that the skirt is seemingly lost--I too always hate seeing pieces sold separately. Even though I tend to break sets up that I own, it's more about extending the wardrobe possibilities than anything else. I'd rather buy an entire suit than not!!!

I feel the same way, but at the same time I do love the way you have mized different components and colours for this look - the navy, grey and peach is very elegant and different.

I see your point but nothing prepared me for the upset of finding a perfect purse sold paired with a matching set of shoes I'd have had to cut off my toes to fit. :P

Love your outfit!

Oh, that's such a beautiful jacket!!
I know what ya mean about separated suits... I have the most divine plaid 40s jacket and I just KNOW there was an equally lovely skirt once. It makes me so sad to think what might have been : )

What a great outfit!

I'm not sure I agree with you about breaking up two piece outfits, though! Most people nowadays don't want to wear suits and also sometimes there are vast size differences between coats and skirts. I personally don't think it's so terrible to sell them as separates if they're more likey to sell and get use that way.

Lovely pictures, as always! I have borrowed a picture from you, to my blog, hope it´s ok. If not let me know and I remove it. I love your blog! :)

i think one can be a 'true vintage lover' and still separate a suit or other type of matching set. not all of us want to wear 30s-40s suits, you know :) be careful of your wording lest you begin to alienate your 'other' audiences..

Anonymous, I know that not everyone wants to dress in all vintage like I do, but I think separating a set for good is disrespectful to the history of it. There are many vintage items I don't particularly like, but I have respect for them, for I know someone out there will love it. I have seen sets of things where I love one item, but not the other, but I would never separate them, because again, I know someone out there will love both pieces.

It is not my goal to alienate people, I gave my opinion on something on my blog, because, well, it's my blog. It is first and foremost a hobby for myself, where I can be myself, and anyone who wants to follow along as I document my life through clothing is welcome to. If they don't like what I say or wear, I hope they have the insight to realize everyone has different tastes and opinions, and move on.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes. This outfit is perfect on so many levels! And I completely agree about matching outfits - but I guess that's what time does to things sometimes.

So pretty! I just found your blog and I love it. I agree with you on separating pieces. A relative who visited recently gave me an adorable orange and white polka dotted jacket because it didn't fit them, but, they kept the matching dress. It makes me sad every time I look at the jacket, it needs it's pair!

I just found your blog, and I love it! Oh I miss Portland so much!!! I moved down south three years ago to be closer to my family for a while, but hope to get back out there someday. It is so nice to see photos and stories from places I used to go...makes me homesick though!

Interesting little DIY mix here sneaking these rather non-vintage boots into a late 30's-style outfit. It really looks great! I love the DIY Vintage mix-and-match trend that you ladies are doing; it never ceases to fascinate! In fact I gave it kudos in this little piece I did with the à la Modest fashion blog, hope you enjoy it:

I have always loved that Coach bag. And after seeing your post, it convinced me to try to find a deal on the same bag on Etsy. And...I did. But, I prefer black.

One last thing, you find the most incredible shoes! So loverly.

Something to keep in mind - some people buy or acquire a suit but the bottom doesn't fit them, or it wears out but the jacket still works.

I have a gorgeous blue tweed 40s suit that I'd love to wear together but I can't get the skirt to zip up - it's too narrow for my round hips, but the jacket fits me like a dream so I wear it with other skirts. That skirt is doing me no good...
