West Point military jacket
Today was the first time I wore the jacket I got at the antique expo. When I posted pictures of my purchase, some readers informed me that it's form the West Point Military Academy, which makes it even cooler. I thought it was a band jacket!
My favorite thing about this jacket is that it has tails, and with a full skirt it kind of looks like a bustle :)
Apparently the uniform design has been in use since 1816, how cool is that?
And if anyone asks me if I am willing to sell it, I am just going to save you sending me an email and say no.
(I'm not being weird, I get lots of emails asking if my clothes are for sale.......)

LOVE it. It's one of those articles of clothing that really could define an outfit without any help. That jacket, a pair of boots, some riders pants, yes.

1816! That's no vintage that's an antique...swooning over here.

My brother went to West Point, so I recognized the jacket immediately.
Did anyone tell you that the Flying Monkeys in the Wizard of Oz are also wearing those uniform jackets? The 'castle' is across the Hudson River from West Point.
Hmm, I just looked at the Wizard of Oz monkeys, and the suits are not quite the same. I believe my Annapolis Naval Academy grad husband has led me to believe some Navy lore that has questionable roots. I am not sure that the monkey uniforms were inspired by West Point, or perhaps that 'fact' just a figment of the Army-Navy rivalry!

It's so not surprising to me that people would ask you to sell your clothes ~ honestly you have the nicest vintage collection I have ever seen. I love all your stuff!
I think your right about holding on tightly to that jacket though, it is simply fantastic. The tails {and bustle effect} are just so Victorian to me! Adore it. ^ W ^

Oh, that jacket is gorgous, but it's the skirt your wearing that makes my day. Love those wool skirts.. :)

Wow, what a find!
This jacket is amazing! I'm totally coveting it! (Although I think if I found a vintage West Point cadet dress jacket, my Navy husband might have something to say about that... rofl.) I'm sure you're going to find many, many outfits to wear this with in the coming months!

Coats with tails make me happy! It looks great on you.
Gorgeous jacket, the tail is fabulous and I love the braiding.
Super cute! At this vintage costume warehouse sale I went to a few times, they had racks of military coats (they seemed legit, not just for stage). I wanted them all, but alas... my closet is only so big. ;)
That jacket ROCKS! What a great find!
God, I love that coat! It's positively gorgeous.
Actually, many military colleges wear a jacket almost identical to that.
