Spring in the 1930s

It was another sunny day, which seemed perfect for a rare mix of silk flowers and fur. Sam and I went to Portland for some shopping, he found some nice Marc Jacobs pants at Buffalo Exchange, and I found the most amazing dressing gown at Magpie Vintage. It's an early 40s navy wool zip front, and best of all, it has a fantastic silk polka dot hood. It's makes me feel very chic while eating Mexican take out on the couch :)

And a true 1930s outfit couldn't be complete without some torn stockings. What started out as a little pull, turned into both my knees feeling quite chilly.

At one point I got stopped by an elderly gentleman who inquired about my outfit. He loved that I dress in vintage everyday, and just happened to have a picture of him back in 1954 at a military dance, and a reunion. Sooooo cute!

We also stopped at Fl\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\sdddddddddddddddddddddddrt6ghyg

Um, my cat decided to use my computer as a sidewalk. Anyway.

We stopped at Flutter to look at all the pretties and say "hi" to King, the adorable shop kitty who is basically the gray version of Hobbes.

And of course the photobooth at Ace Hotel is a must, as you can see, I tried my best to make Sam smile.

I've been waiting to wear this hat for a week, Poppycock Vintage graciously sent it to me, and I'm just in love with it. I usually don't to full on shop promos, but this fantastic Etsy shop specializes in vintage hats! Right up my alley. And since lots of readers ask where to buy affordable vintage hats, I think you should know about it!

Here's a couple hats from her shop that fit into today's "spring meets winter" ensemble. You can purchase both, and many more at Poppycock Vintage!

I am so jealous of you right now! Not just because of your fabulous hat, but because of your sunny weather, haha! It's been so cold here in Flagstaff. Ripped or not, if I wore only stockings I think I would freeze.

And that photo is darling! It's so cute how he stopped to talk to you. :)

That little old man was so cute! Sometimes I think my Grandpa was the only one who really apriciated the way I dress

I adore that dark teal blue jacket you are wearing. And how sweet of the old man to stop you, the dress his partner is wearing is so pretty.

I read about Poppycock over on Fashion Forestry, don't they have a fabulous selection. Already added to my etsy favourites!

Hehe, kitty's contribution made me giggle!
It's funny until they do it on vintage pattern paper... :(

Ooh the hat is adorable! And I love that jacket & collar.

A 1930s skirt is high on my to-make list - can I ask what pattern you used for yours?

I love the fur-silk flowers combo, indeed quite unusual for the weather to be so co-operative! =) And the photos of the old man was so nice, how handsome he was in his uniform.
Have a great weekend! Hope your nice weather continues =)

What a beautiful ensemble! Oh, how I do love spring in the 1930s! Although I'd settle for any old spring at the moment, being snowed in and all ;) those shoes are amazing. And I love the hats! I am getting into retro hairstyling (line pin curls, etc) in an effort to be nice to my hair and stop all the heating and straightening.
I've so enjoyed your blog lately! But this is the first time I've commented. So nice to meet you!~

Once again it is a good thing we don't live in the same town; I'd be tempted to steal this outfit from you! haha! ;) I really love all the pieces you've put together--that hat is especially lovely!

I have to say that I am utterly jealous you have a decent photobooth nearby. My husband and I used to take photobooth pictures constantly, but we haven't been able to find a decent one near us to continue the tradition. They're so much fun though! :)

What a lovely conversation! I was wearing my (rather dramatic) striped tights one day and an older gentleman in his 70s stopped me and thanked me because I reminded him of his youth in London. Totally made my day! Even though it happened at least 10 years ago, I still smile at the memory. :)

Those of you asking about the skirt pattern might be interested in this: http://www.decadesofstyle.com/vintage-patterns-1930s/3011-1930s-stardust-skirt

It's got a similar '30s silhouette & asymmetrical seams. Although it has flared/tapering gores- I prefer the straight & even look in Solanah's skirt.
