Civil War at Fort Stevens

Photobucket
I didn't expect to be this into the Civil War weekend, but as the day went on it just got more and more fun. As mentioned before, no one was originally going in period dress. So that turned into three of us ladies in dresses and bonnets.

Then Sam decided on a whim he wanted to take part of it. So he donned the wools and boots, and was right down there in the "battlefield". Color me stunned!

A group took him in last minute and showed him the ropes, everyone is so nice there!

There were so many pretty dresses, cool uniforms, and my goodness the children! I can't think of many cuter things that darling girls running around in pinafores and boys in little wool caps.

We also got a carload of tintypes, can't wait to show you those too!

Ugh, beautiful. Your Civil War dress is so much prettier than mine.

Now I want to dye mine. :/

Oh America, could you please consider staging a Civil War reenactment or two on this side of the border?

These images are amazing - as is everything the participants were sporting. The shot of the women in mourning black in particular will stay with me for a long time, a haunting glimpse at what life was like for so many ladies during those horribly brutal war years.

That must have been so amazing to be involved in.

I look and I want to love all the clothes, but my thermometer says 97 and all I can think is HOT HOT HOT!

Granted, I also think too many people are a little too naked too much of the time. What did our fore-fashionistas know that we don't about covering up, looking elegant, and staying cool?

I love all these photos! Especially the family and the two girls by the horses, so interesting and beautiful! This looks like such an elaborate and atmospheric reenactment--and to think, in Oregon, where there were no battles, hah! I would love to go to something like this someday! Can't wait to see the tintypes!

How amazing. My dad used to be a part of these (before I was born) but I have never gone to one :: sigh :: but hope to. You and Samuel look wonderful in your outfits, as well as the rest of your family. I adore all the photos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My fave thing about this post - that sweet picture of you with that little girl is in front of the Embalm Your Dead tent. Excellent.

Such an amazing event and I love the outfits. How do you stay informed of where these events are held? I live in Washington state (eastern side) as well and would love the opportunity to attend some of these events.

where did you get your bonnet from? I absolutely love it (and your dress of course!) and I would love to get one for my civil war costume.

I missed this post originally and case to it by way of your end-of-year post. How fun to see my mom, along with other reenactors, in your stunning photos! I did reenacting in Oregon for many years with NWCWC, as a child and a teenager, and my parents still actively participate (my father depicts the life of a fire company chief, my mother a civilian – occasionally in mourning, as seen in your photo). Thank you for sharing!
