Civil War outfit

Photobucket

This weekend was a big ol' Civil War re-enactment at Fort Stevens. We went last year and had a blast, and it was even better this time around! I wasn't planning on attending in full on costume, but Friday when I was shopping for something to wear with my mother, I came across this dress at Rays Ragtime and couldn't resist. It's just too perfect! It's not even a costume piece, it's a 60s housedress. Go figure.

After finding the dress we stopped by Urban Eccentric and just happened to find a hoopskirt. I got the bonnet at the re-enactment last year and just trimmed it to match the dress. Last minute outfit success!

Next up I'll post pics of the event, and the ever exciting tintypes!

Quite frankly my dear, you look amazing! (Sorry, cheesy Gone With The Wind ref, I know.)

You do though, from top to hoopskirt bottom. No matter the decade/era, you always look so incredibly stylish, lovely, and inspiring.

You have such an eye for how outfits work, it's insane! Can't believe that's a 60s housedress, it makes a perfect Civil War ensemble.

Pure beauty. But now I am bitterly regretting giving away my hoop petticoat! It had been sitting up in my wardrobe for years unworn (I am Australian so we don't have civil war re-enactments!). It had to go under my 'haven't worn in 2 years, has to go' rule. But I am hoping someone beautiful like you picked it up and is wearing it. You are also channeling a bit of 'House on the Prairie' in that photo which I love. Thank you!

You look amazing and what a well timed find!

I've always wondered what it's like to wear a hoop skirt… was it difficult to get around in?

I used to reenact with the 9th Virginia in Oregon. My favorite reenactment was always Fort Stevens. Your outfit looks lovely and perfect for the day!

My husband has been doing reenactments for a few years now. His troupe portrays what life was like for soldiers during the years prior to the Mexican-American War when they were moving Native American settlements up north to Canada. His troupe were the main advisors for most of the military scenes in the movie "North and South." Oh, the stories they tell about working with Patrick Swayze. Next year I'll be working as a laundress for the unit, provided I have made a new uniform for my husband prior to that. Priorities...lol
