Going Green

I used to hate suits. Having a square jaw and shoulders I always stayed away from any type of suit, but last year at work I decided to try on this one. And how lovely it was. Since then I've collected three other 1940s suits, and am on the lookout for a 1930s one. The ultimate find would be a New Look Christian Dior suit, but that may take a lifetime of looking (and savings). A green suit has been on my wish list for a while as it looks so militant, and over the weekend I got this one at The Red Light. It fits like a glove, and I LOVE the nipped in waist.

Today I put on one hat, left the house with another, and got to work and found this one (and two others, ahem) waiting to be put out on display. Needless to say they never made it out, but instead came home with me to my hat farm, where hats play all day until it's showtime.

Dress: The Red Light

Hat and purse: The Urban Eccentric

I usually avoid suits too as I'm not sure when I would wear them... they seem rather 'smart' for everyday wear but you pull it off quite well. Love the colour and shape of this suit and the hat works wonderfully with it.

That is the best suit ever! I just love the shape. I usually avoid suits because I feel a bit 'stiff' in them, but you pull it off so perfectly!

you look seriously great in this. I wish I could pull something like this off. I'd wear pencil skirts and pumps everyday of my life.

So gorgeous! I've started dipping my toes into the suit-water, haha. I think I've seen too many 40s movies with ladies who look so good in suits not to want to have one of my own!

I love the hat as well. :)

GOSH that's a fine suit. Of all your fabulous garments, the suits are what I'd like to pinch the most.

Wow, you look amazing! I think I might consider vintage suits now:) I know what you mean about the hats too...your collection is most likely much more diverse than mine, but sometimes I feel like I'm holding a hat party in my bedroom.

Adore the combo!

So beautiful! I also used to feel that I couldn't wear suites 'cuz of my jaw and shoulders, but now I like them. At least when they fit like yours...

Since I'm new at wearing vintage hats, I was wondering if I could ask if you have any tips on how to fasten them with hat pins? Would be ever so grateful for some help and advice =)

Cheers!

Lovely suit! and I see yours doesn't have shoulder pads, I mean the ones in the other pictures have them, I like more how it looks without them.

I usually shy away from suits too, mainly because they're a little too dressy for my lifestyle and I feel a bit too 'buttoned up'. But this one is lovely on you! The cut and colour are amazing.

Oh dear, "hat farm"! I know the feeling! Every time I swear off buying more hats, I end up... er, buying more hats. ;)

I hate suits too. Maybe I need to find the right suit to fit my body, like you did. You look very lovely, like you fit in a Bette Davis movie.

Gorgeous green suit. Being big busted, I tend to avoid suits as well.

ADORABLE! I used to have to wear suits to work some days, and I think that one is much nicer than many of the modern ones floating around out there.

Cheers!

That suit is simply gorgeous! I'm usually put off by suits, especially those awful '80s one everyone seems to keep wearing around here... You look like a film star in it and that shade of green is so autumn-perfect <3

Love it. Not manly and square like some suits. Very feminine and smart looking!

I love suits! But sad to say I weigh a little to much to fit into most of them. So I usually end up buying just the jacket since it works buttoned up. You look VG (vintage gorgeous)in that green suit !

I have two Dior suit coats, and the sad thing is.. I never wear them.. i know i know....

What shoes are you wearing? I saw a hint of green! :)

I don't usually fit suits- especially vintage suits. My shoulders just don't like them. :)

Erika, I'm actually working on a post on how to wear hat pins! So stay tuned ;)

Leanne, I work at a local vintage shop.

Kelly Anne, yes! A hat party, I love that!

Dizzy Dame, shame one you! ;)

Della, they're modern but with a 30s feel, my legs hurt like crazy this morning though, I need insoles.

Hehe, Lisa, how funny!

Absolutely love this suit...the dusty pine hue and tailored cut are so wildly sophisticated. You look amazing - don't shy away from suits, honey, I think they work wonderfully on you!

Have a gorgeous Monday!

I tend to shy away from suits too. I always feel too "matronly" in them, despite trying to pick out ones that are more curvy. Maybe I just haven't found the perfect suit yet? That being said, I'd still love to find and own a smartly tailored 40s or 50s suit; something in a classic fabric (tweed or a lightweight wool are my dream fabrics!), that is a flattering cut. I've seen a few that come close, but are usually too pricey for me, or totally the wrong size. ;) lol!

You look fantastic! I love how you've softened up a rather "militant" shade of green. And that hat is too cute!!!
