Don't wear your Swirl when it's windy...

Today Sam and I took a little trip to Portland to go to Kenny and Zukes. There he is waiting out on the sidewalk for table, that place is always busy. After eating we went to Magpie Vintage for about 10 minutes before the parking meter ran out, so not enough time to really look. He did however buy a fantastic pair of wire frames, I think from the 20s or 30s but I'm not sure. He looks so dapper. It seems the whole wearing glasses without lenses thing has rubbed off on him ;)

I found this darling Swirl dress at work yesterday and snatched it right up, the color is so vibrant and it looks great with my orange sweater, for when it eventually gets cooler. It only has one side pocket though, and one thing I love about my two other Swirls is that they have two nice big patch pockets on the front. I'll manage I suppose ;)

Dress, shoes, and purse: The Urban Eccentric

Sunglasses: Chanel (yes, they are real) Buffalo Exchange.

Necklace: Gift from Sam.

very pretty! i love my swirl dresses but always worry about the flap flying open because it's often windy where I live. What has saved me is double stick fashion tape. The kind Hollywood uses for keeping "wardrobe malfunctions" under control. I buy a pack at Sally Beauty Supply that has pre-cut strips in two sized and that stuff sticks like crazy. You can use it fabric to fabric without damage, or fabric to skin (great for slipping straps). It's this stuff: http://www.sallybeauty.com/Professional-Apparel-Tape/SBS-418205,default,pd.html

I always keep a few in my wallet, just in case - great for hems that fall out and sweaters/blouses that gap at the bustline too!

No pockets = a reason to wear short fancy pocketed aprons?

As much as people talk about swirls I never really got the attraction enough to want one of my own, but I love yours!

Oh my goodness, not going to lie, I'm so envious of your Swirl dress. I have been on the hunt for one that cute forever, though I haven't had much luck finding even ones that aren't to my taste. Great finds, sounds like a fun little trip :)

I love your Swirl dress, I own two of them-- you can see me wearing one on my blog: http://thriftaholic.blogspot.com/2009/09/flea-market-frenzy.html

It actually dips rather low in the back... do you know if they used to wear them over something (other than a slip)?

Leilani, when they were made back in the 1940s they were marketed and used as full wrap around aprons, perhaps you have such a gem!

I love that dress . . I've never seen a Swirl dress in person in my life, but seeing them on vintage blogs is making me want to track one down for sure.

Also I can't get over how perfect your hair is looking . . it looked great before, but now it goes with your outfits so well!!
