Jane Marple is my style icon.
The other day at Costco I found a gem of a gem: Miss Marple! Needless to say I got some stares while clutching to DVD's jumping up and down and squeeling in the middle of the store. They had all four season, each only $30, and thanks to the lovely world of budgeting I had to choose only one. I got series one since I had only seen a bit of one of the four episodes. I watched the first episode last night and fell in love with the opening credits. It shows Miss Marple getting ready to go out, slipping on her gloves, putting on her hat, and buttoning her knit duster. One of my favorite things about the show is that it is set in post WWII England, but she dresses in 30s frocks, it's so sweet. So it's the best mix of youthful curvy 50s outfits, and little old lady 30s outfits. Kind of like my wardrobe, hehe.

I was rushed out the door today and forgot a hat! Oh well. Someone did ask me "Is that your hair?" today. Am I the only one with this problem?
Tomorrow Sam and I are going to the beach for a couple of days with his family, I'll post pictures when we get back!

I can't believe people ask you that - it seems so rude! It's like asking "Are those your real teeth?" or "Is that your real nose?"
I get "Do you wear coloured contacts?" all the time, and I find it really irritating. I tell them no, but they clearly don't believe me and peer into my eyes looking for them.
Hooray for Miss Marple! :)
i feel like its not the first time you've been asked that! that is so ridiculously rude i barely believe it!
as for the rest, you look adorable and if i had seen you squeeling and clutching those dvds i think i woulda ran over and bought another season for you! :P
I adore your outfit, i love polka dots lately.
Gosh you do get asked about your hair quite often dont you, it must be getting really irritating by now.

Oh, I just LOVE Miss Marple! She is brilliant. And indeed, such a style icon...I melt every time I see all the wonderful costumes. (and I am so charmed by your lovely inspired outfit)
And no, you're not the only one. I have gotten similar comments too ("is that ALL your real hair?" or "is that a hair piece?"...especially when I wear my hair up in Heidi braids or something like that) and it's really weird and awkward! I usually end up explaining to people that crazy things - like hair growth - happen when you don't go to the salon for a number of years... ;)
Have fun at the beach!
I love your outfit--that blouse is darling!
I've been asked many times if my hair is real; people also like to ask me where I am from as a round about way of commenting on my pale skin. They can't fathom that someone living in AZ could be so pale!
I must netflix this! I love Costco, too! I can spend hours in the video game/book/DVD section.
Maybe people ask you because courtesy doesn't exist much anymore. Instead of saying, "I love your hair!", it's their rude way of saying it. Just a thought!
Oh, Miss Marple is the greatest! I was just browsing through the bookstore the other day and they had all the British TV dvds together, which I love, and saw the Miss Marple sets, but they were super expensive (almost $40 a set or something like that). Such a good show though ;)
That's so rude of people to ask you about your hair. Some people...
Adorable outfit! I adore that blouse.
Gosh, I love Miss Marple. It's like the best show!
She is brilliant. :)
xx
Whenever my hair looks fantastic people ask me if it's real.
It's a compliment! A rude one though still a compliment! :)
Wow I did exactly the same thing at Costco! I found "Icons of Screwball Comedy Vol. 1" and I was literally screaming and jumping up and down!
Was it the Marple with Joan Hickson from the 80s/90s or the more recent ones? Either way, I love them both!
I still can't believe people ask you that - I can't say it's ever happened to me before. It's very rude!

Andi, the new ones, I like them a lot more ;)
Oh my god I love Miss Marple we watched it last night! Its so good! You look divine x
You look lovely :) We have got some really new ones in England, Marple is played by Julia McKenzie I don't know if you've seen any of those?
Have a look at this it's all of the Miss Marples through time..

Wow, you really got the style of Miss Marple down right! :) Have a wonderful time at the beach!
Oooo I love Miss Marple! She's adorable. I think her wardrobe is fantastic! =D
And hey- the only reason people ask you if "that's you're real hair?" is probably because it's pretty they're jealous. :)
My hair just doesn't look good enough to warrant such rudeness. I bet the rude questioners are just willing it to be a hair piece so they can buy themselves a head of hair just like yours :-)
I used to get asked whether I was feeling unwell by at least one person every single day because I am quite pale. I can relate to how incredibly boring it is to answer the same question over and over and over...
Ever get the feeling of deja vu?
I wear lots of pink powder now so I can live in peace.
Oh I love Miss Marple!
Sometimes PBS has shows online for Miss Marple (a good thing, since I don't have a TV...)
It is so strange that you get those comments! My hair is curly, and dyed red, and rarely do people even ask if that's my natural hair colour.
And hello! I'm Sarah Louise, I just found your blog the other day and I love it.
You look so perfect!!! I adore everything about this outfit! Have fun at the beach! :o)
No you're not the only one! My sister a red head like me often gets the question if it's her real hair colour. It doesn't mean because it's so pretty it would be fake. That's probably the problem with your hair, it's so pretty that people are jealous and have to ask the question for their own ease at mind. Just laugh that you have such beautiful hair and they don't :) nah !
I can't imagine ever asking something like that! Sometimes I wonder what goes through people's heads.
I've been netflix-ing this current run of Miss Marples for the past few weeks and love them so!
I get razzed all the time by my family because of my paleness. I hate the feeling of hot sun on my skin and my mother has more of an olive complexion. She often teases me asking me if I'm really her daughter because I am so pale. it is pretty much a gien this will happen when we meet, especially after she's been somewhere and has gotten darker. I wish I had embraced my paleness more and worked harder to keep the sun off me especially now that I am desperately trying to fade years of farmer's tans.
many people these days have no sense of etiquette and respectable behavior. All you can do is shrug it off. Perhaps they ask because your hair is so adorable they wish to be able to purchase a wig just like it? Who knows.
You're so lovely!
I, too, adore Ms. Marple!!! So cunning and well dressed in the best old lady way.

Sooo I think, that people ask you about your hair because it's always so nicely styled. People are so lazy these days, sadly, that they doubt anyone would put that much effort into their hair. We live in a flip flop and sweats world...and we must live with the consequences.
Just chiming in with the Marple love. If you like the aesthetic so, perhaps check out this post of mine: http://illustratorclaire.co.uk/2009/09/06/my-favourite-brand? About the clothing brand "Jane Marple". :]
Dear vintage vixen saw this and thought of you http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hats-A-History-of-Fashion-in-Headwear-800-photos_W0QQitemZ290347301289QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Nonfiction_Book?hash=item439a0c39a9&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14
cheers
I've never heard of Miss Marple it sounds like a fun show though. I love the polka dots.
It's probably because you do your hair so perfectly, people can't believe it's real. It really does look impeccable. And your outfit, LOVE LOVE love it.
You look so cute! Hurrah for amazing finds on DVD series--isn't that always fun to be able to get an entire season? ;)
Hmm... I can't believe people would actually ask you that! I mean, aside from just being rude, I don't see what prompt the questions. :p I don't really get questions like that about my physical appearance; most of the inquiries are in relation to my insane shoes and the heel height. haha!

come on to join me on facebook: miss woody's blog!
I just found your blog and spent most of last night reading it and LOVING it! You are a real gem of a gal with incredible taste and style! I look forward to your next post:-)
Oh! Miss Marple is adorable! Especially with Geraldine McEvan, Joan Hickson is nice to and those films are more tru to the books, the ones with Geraldine have often, sadly, had a "make over" in the handeling...
But the ones with Geradldine are so beautiful with the costumes, hair and makup!
About the hair... I often get that kind of questions! But I don´t find them rude. more in an intrested way- people dont reallly knowing what to say beccause they aren´t used to se people like us ;)
Leanne and Hasoon, thanks for the links!
50s housewife, thanks, I've never seen that one I might just get it!
I love Miss Marple too! Now I have to go to Costco to see if there those DVDs are there.
BTW, your hair looks perfectly real to me, I don't get that rude question!
I know I'm ridic late commenting, but I just found your blog and I've been reading from the beginning -- and obviously loving it! I get "Is your curl natural?" all the time. I try and take it as a compliment because it's usually said in an envious tone, but it is really a personal question if you don't know someone personally. And every so often I'll be in natural light and someone I've known for ages (but only interacted with under ofice overhead lighting) will ask if I'm wearing colored contacts (my eyes are a particularly lovely shade of dark blue if I do say so myself). I want to say, "Nope, you're just not all that observant," but I have to work with these people.
