Blogger vacation

In the four years I've run this blog, I've never officially taken a break. Well, time for a virtual vacation. I've become less enchanted with Vixen Vintage lately, partially due to lifestyle change, namely quitting my job.

I have less reason to dress in the various vintage items I own, and days are spent very casual and home oriented. At first I couldn't quite get used to the fact that those suits and heels won't get as much mileage anymore, but after some time I've adapted to a new chapter. I don't want to abandon Vixen Vintage, but I am taking it in a new direction. It won't be so focused on outfits only, but more of a photojournal. I love taking pictures and would like to improve, and there's so much to photograph! So for those of you who may not come back, thank you so very much for visiting, even if your stay was short. For those who wish to follow along whatever life brings next, I'll see you here in a couple of weeks!

I understand completely and I'm not even a big time blogger like you. I feel it's a sign of growth to feel yourself pulled in different directions. I don't think many will leave your blog, people quite like reading about you not so much just your clothes :). Excited to see your new projects, and enjoy your break.

A lot of vintage bloggers seem to be doing the same lately, maybe there's change in the air.
Looking forward to seeing where this goes - and good luck!

First of all I am so excited to see the new wonderful direction your blog takes. Variety is the spice of life and this blog should reflect who you are, not who you were. Second of all I think it is exciting you are taking a blogging break. I have found a break every now and again can totally recharge your blogging battery and you will probably come up with so many new and exciting things to blog about you will be thrilled to start back up again in a few weeks. So have a wonderful vacay and we will all see you when you return!

Thanks doll,

Life is not a one way street and should never be treated as such. We each grow and change in different ways over the years and that is completely, perfectly alright. You are incredibly lovely, talented, fashionable, and sweet person, and I know that whatever direction your take VV in from here on out it, will shine as brightly and beautifully as always.

Aww, I'm sorry to hear it hasn't been so enchanting writing a blog anymore. However, I think I know how you feel!! I've all but stopped blogging lately myself, for similar reasons... I feel like I have an identity on my blog that really doesn't encompass who I am anymore, and it's so boring to keep it up. (I've been wearing mostly bold 1960s and Club Kid looks lately, while my li'l blog reads like a shrine to the dainty '40s/'50s aesthetic ;)

Anyway, I'm sure the next chapter of your blog will be just as great, if not better, and I look forward to reading along :)

I wish you the best of luck but I will certainly be here to support you on your new direction. I've been feeling the same way; quit my job and have been looking for a new direction in life to start fresh and become something new.

You'll find it, I'm sure.

Solanah, enjoy your break. I only do my vintage blog occasionally so I know that it must be challenging to think up blog posts every 2nd day or so as you do. I have also found that is also necessary to have a different look or outfit each time otherwise it starts to get same-ish. So blogging is not as easy as it looks! I will be sticking with you for sure, but please know that we have all loved and appreciated the hard work you have put into your blog over the past years. Maria, aka Vintage suburbia x

You take beautiful photos, and am excited to see the new direction your blog takes. Thanks so much for mentioning my blog! I completely understand how you've been feeling because I've been going through some of the same myself. Being unemployed, living in a new city without my network has meant a lot of home time, and less dressing up. I definitely miss my San Francisco city living. I could get away with wearing whatever I wanted there. Hopefully I'll be back there soon. Anyway, sending love to you.

I'll support you no matter what! I look forward to whatever direction you decide to go.

It's great to hear...or rather "read" that. :) I think we all tend to go through fashion changes, I know I did and I don't regret it one bit. We only live once, so if you're in the mood to wear something that isn't authentic 1940s, then go for it! Plus we're women and let's face it, we get bored and want to try new looks! :D Can't wait to see more "new" styles coming from you! As well as photography posts -- those are fun too! Good luck and have fun!

ps. I'd love to read more about your kitty! I'm also a loving cat mother to two black beauties. :)

Blogger burnout? Seems like there's a lot of it going around these days! It's all part of the evolution of a blog, I think - with a medium so dynamic, it's the nature of a blog to be fluid, to evolve. I've actually been admiring your photography skillz in many of your recent posts, so it's welcome news that there's going to be plenty more of it!

Dont worry, i wont abandon you! i totally understand how you feel. almost the entire summer i was almost bored and unintrested in vintage stuff. ( i'm back to it now, dont worry) but we all need a short little break from it every now and then. in fact, i had already noticed the posts were less frequent and the outfits not as vintage, but you still have great style and will still be glamouros. I look forward to your next posts, and if i need more inspiration, i look at your past posts. whatever the case, you will still look great and are a wonderful photographer. just keep dressing the way you want and feel comfortable, because its no fun if you dont!
Beth :)

I can relate, too. Though my blog focuses a lot more on incorporating vintage things into a modern lifestyle, I understand feeling a little boxed in and wanting to take your life in a new direction. I'm lucky that I didn't do a fashion blog cos I think nobody would read it. One day I dress like a 50s housewife, the next like a "hipster," the next trendy, followed by a bit of a classic prep. I can't make up my mind what I like to wear, but my love of vintage housewears and design stays the same. It's good to grow and you have a ton of readers who'll support that!

Like everyone else, I'm sorry to hear that you're down, but also a little encouraged by the reminder that no one's life is picture perfect all the time. I'm looking forward to what you do next.

I have often looked at many other vintage fashion blogs and I have perused the vintage fashion blogs you have recommended, and while some of them peaked slight interest, have to say .... NO ONE does vintage like Solanah! No one makes it look so natural, unforced and impeccably put together, inspiring good natured envy, like you do. I will certainly miss this aspect of your blog. However, you also take wonderful pictures and go to beautiful places that I never tire of looking at. I wish you well on the new leg of your journey. You are a very talented young lady and I hope you can use these talents to take you every where you want to go.
Best wishes.

Thanks for being such an inspiration. I first saw you in an article in peppermint magazine and it was an epiphany for me to see someone dressed top to toe in vintage, and gave me the courage to do the same….which may seem a little trivial, but for me to finally express myself the way I wanted to really opened up my life to some lovely things :)

I loved your blog before and I'm sure I will love it then. Beside your vintage fashions, we readers also enjoy your opinions, cool events that you attend, and your lovely cats and family. Plus your smile and cheeriness is contagious. needless to say pretty much all of us will come back, we're the ones that matter anyways HAHA. anyone who abandons you because you aren't living the life they want you to live should leave anyway :).

You surely desirve a break! I can never believe the rate you blog at. I feel like sometimes if you do it more casually, you don't dread it like a chore. I'm sure what ever you adventure into next you will master!

I am quite sad that you will be abandoning your past frequent vintage outfit posts, I was greatly inspired by them. However we all understand the need to change. Mine being from ordinary to vintage and your from vintage to TBA. I will always be a loyal follower no matter what direction you take. I am curious as to why toy quit your job. You seemed so happy with life, I'm taken aback and I would love to understand your reason for the change. I respect all your decisions and always will. I think you are beautiful inside and out. <3 Alexandra

You have been such an inspiration Solanah, so thank you for taking us all along with you so far!!
Sometimes inspiration comes from around a corner that you weren't looking for, so it is clever to take a break from what you normally do to see what happens. I'll be reading for the next exciting installment.

I remember when I first discovered blogs. My friend had started hers and told me all about this amazing network where I could look at what other people wore without having to google image search stuff. I was just starting to "get into" vintage at that time so, naturally, the first thing I googled was "vintage fashion blogs."
Vixen Vintage was the first blog at the top of a rather long list. I clicked on the link and from that very first moment I was enchanted. Here was a girl, who was not too much older than me, posing glamourously in dresses, hats and petticoats, looking like she had just stepped from a 50's movie. I was instantly inspired and started wearing 50's dresses around town.
I guess what I'm trying to say in the least creepiest way possible is that Vixen Vintage will always be rather special to me because it was the first vintage blog I ever read. I can't wait to see what the future brings for you.
Yours,
Erin

I really am sorry to say this to you, especially as an ardent follower for three years following into college, but I just lost an incredible amount of respect for you as a role model. Everyone thinks they are a photographer nowadays, and you were my idol for life, not just as a vintage blogger. As people around here in CA say, anyone can be a photographer is they have an expensive enough camera. I want to ask if this is a joke, as everything seemed so normal for the past few posts, but I do understand. It broke my heart to read this, and I am sorry that my one role model has extensively, and quite thoroughly, killed her own image to me. You WERE a part of me and I see myself forgetting about you completely in my near future.

Solanah said...

Madison, it's really too bad you feel that way, but your main issue seems to be that I like taking pictures? I never said I wanted to become a photographer, I'm close to a few very good professional photographers and don't aspire to do what they do. They are amazing. I simply find myself wanting to share things around me that inspire me on this blog in addition to the outcome of those inspirations (outfits and such). I am so thankful for the support from nearly everyone who has followed my life these past few years, but things change. I can't stay the same forever, especially for someone else, I hope you can understand that. And I hope that whatever image you formed of me doesn't sour, I may not be perfect, but I'm not all bad either :) xoxo
