Blue suit and feathered hat

Photobucket

Today my mother and I went to Magpie Vintage, my favorite vintage store in Portland, I always leave with something :) Today was no exception, only instead of finding something for me, I found something for Sam! It's pretty cool, can't wait to share photos.

We met with Janey of Atomic Redhead and I bought an adorable kitty dress from her. Can't wait to share photos of that too! She looked lovely as ever, but I forgot to snap a pic :( Too distracted by all the vintage...

After lunch mama and I stopped into Rays Ragtime. I don't really have good luck there, as most of the "good stuff" (30s, 40s, 50s) is out of reach and has to be requested. Understandable seeing as a lot of people come in there to play dress up, but walking out the door we saw a lot of dresses we would have tried if we had seen them!

Anyway, I did find a real gem, a creamy late 30s hat, that is the shape I've been searching for. I was looking  for this style hat on the displays behind the counter, and bumped into the cheaper hats on a rack. One tumbled down and as I placed it back on its perch, I saw this one. Like a ray of felted sunlight. See? Things find me. All I have to do is be clumsy.

I seriously can't get over that suit. It is so very like the outfit in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. Oh, how fun would it be to have a day of us gals dressing up in outfits inspired by the film for a day of shopping?

I'm glad you liked the dress! I look forward to your post about it!

Oh my gosh! I almost bought that hat when I was out shopping with Hannah!! But I had recently purchased a similar one, and decided to leave this one. I'm glad it found a good home! :)

It was lovely seeing you this weekend! I hope you have fun this weekend!

As soon as I saw that suit I literally stopped breathing, breathed out (after a good few seconds) and said "so pretty..." the light blue is incredibly lovely and the shape of the collar is unique. If I'm ever in Portland (and the US at that) I really must visit Magpie Vintage. And looking forward to the kitty dress!

I think any hat with a feather adds instant glamor. It's hard no to be classy with a feather hat.

Wow--that cream hat you picked up is amazing; I can't wait to see it worked into an outfit! Love your entire shopping look too; I really like that you added in the modern purse--it works well! :)

Wow! You look incredible! I'm curious though - how did your hair to look that amazing? I have very thick hair that is fairly long as well, I've tried rag curls but the curls are either too small (think bad 80s perm) or two big. Several times the curls have come out perfectly (Veronica Lake meets 1940s housewife) but they're gone by the end of the day. Should I hairspray them to death? I love to dress in 100% vintage, but without the right hair style, I can't pull it off. Any ideas??

There is such a sweet, captivating elegance to this outfit. I always adore that shade of cheerful light blue, and in suit form, it has me swooning! As does your tremendously lovely feathered hat.

Wishing you a gorgeous Friday & weekend,
Jessica
