Friday night we went to, what my grandma calls "music". It's a night when locals get together, in an old church way out on a dusty country road, and whoever wants to sing, or play music, can. There were some pretty amazing singers, not to mention the various characters up on stage.
It was pretty neat, I just love that old fashioned sense of small town community. And check out those orange church pews. So stylin.
The woman sitting in front of us was 100 years old, and there was a baby cooing behind us. All ages! I hope the tradition continues with the following generations, such a cool way to keep close knit.
Oh, and I made friends with a cow.

Wow, I love this idea! I'm so happy a tradition like this still continues. I always wished I grew up in a small town with all these adorable events. Hopefully I'll get to visit one soon :) x
I love Oklahoma! That's where my mom grew up, so we've visited a few times. It's a surprisingly beautiful state!
Wow! this is so cool! I LOVE it. I play the fiddle (mostly Western Swing) and play at different get togethers at cafes and county fairs and churches. it's so great to see all of the wonderful pictures of these events. It's awsome to get to know everyone. The old folks and comical ones are the best. Wow solonah, i'm so glad to see you post something like this. To think, that you, a famous blogger from the big city is actually close by and attending the same type of things i do1 great photos, ya'll have a wonderful eye for them!

My family is from southern Indiana and we call these gatherings a hootenanny - glad to see they are still a prt of life all over the country! Oh and those orange pews are divine.
what a fun event! And such a lovely dress!
Solanah, this looks so much fun! I love jamming sessions like this! I used to play with a group who would meet up and improvise for hours! We had one or two brilliant gigs, internationally and locally, which we never knew what vibe we'd get going! It was brilliant!
Orange pews- my goodness!
I'm just in love with that first photo, everything about it is perfect! I hope I can get to see Oklahoma one day, but til then I'll live vicariousy through you :D xxx

That looks like fun!! As does your whole trip... the midwest seems so beautiful. And your green dress could not be more darling, I love it!
Amazing! And you look lovely as always!
Oklahoma is a great place. My family is from there. My granny used to host "singings" where everyone would come to her house, bring potluck, and the gospel band from the local church would play gospel music in the back yard of her house out in the woods. Awesome times.
cows! :)))
What a delightful jaunt into the Midwest. Love the colours you paired here - I'll definitely have to partner saffron and mint green together one of these days, too (just need some mint green first ;D).
Wishing you a beautiful day,
♥ Jessica
this is sooo charming, it's like travelling with a time machine
Oklahoma is very pretty! My grandfather was from Oklahoma and my grandmother is from Texas. I've been told stories about these get togethers many times growing up and I have participated in them since I am blessed to have very musically talented friends :) My grandmother writes amazingly beautiful country peoms and still reads them at church every Sunday upon request. I'm glad that this tradition isn't dieing! Love the pics of the cattle btw!
Have a good day and thank you for always posting such amazing pics!
Adios!
Jessie Lou
Your dress is the best!
