1940s twins

Twila Jean and I get mistaken for each other in out little part of town quite often. I have been asked how my kids are. She has been asked how things are at the vintage store. We have both been referred to as "the other one". Even when she was platinum blond and I brunette, people got us mixed up all the time. So we decided to have some fun with it :)
For the March Palmer and Wirfs Antique Expo, we found very similar 1940s sewing patterns in our collections, went out and got some cute repro fabric, and made matching dresses. Needless to say, we got stopped quite a bit. And were asked many times if were actually were twins.

The show wasn't as spectacular as it has been in the past, there were no women's clothing dealers :( But since my closet is bursting, I really don't need clothes. But bakelite bangles? Why of course I need those :)

I arrived at the show with two bakelite (and two lucite) and left with eleven. A nice little collection I think!

The ones on the top hand are my new finds :)

Oh Solanah, one day you have to do a post all about your bakelite bangle collection. You must have amassed quite the bakelite rainbow by now and I'd love to see them all!

The dresses are so cute! Great job! =) And the bakelite bangles are just so pretty!

I can sort of see why someone would mistake you for siblings, there are quite strong similarities between your facial strustures (as much or more than between me and my sister, and people notice that we're siblings). But twins? They can't look behind the clothes and the hair...
You're both beautiful ladies, though!

You two are so cute! ;) I love that you made matching dresses--just goes to show you that grown up gals can have fun being matchy-matchy (it just isn't reserved for little girls ;). hehe!

Wowza--you really hit the jackpot with the bracelets! I'm loving all the colors...

A friend and I use to get the twin comment all the time when she lived here. Even when we had opposite hair colors. So funny!

Love that bakelite!!

I have a question on your hair. I'm thinking of setting my hair at night because I figured it's not much time to spend on your hair and still look put together. The only thing is, I exercise in the middle of the day. What's your advice on that and keeping the curl intact? I'd really love a response! Thanks! Love the dress.

Yuh, cos like, you look EXACTLY the same, doh!

so beautiful!!

Solanah said...

Miss Tami Lee, we got it at Fabric Depot, in the little retro/feedsack fabrics section.

Nathaly, instead of the standard workout ponytail, try piling your hair on a headscarf, just secure with pins to make sure it stays intact http://vixenvintage.blogspot.com/2010/01/how-to-tie-40s-headscarf.html

That's so cool, you must have had so much fun all people thinking you were twins. Actually I love all the blouse details on your dress, especially with the matching white socks!
