How to look good in finger waves when you don't look good in finger waves.

Photobucket
This isn't the best finger wave attempt in the world, but I consider it a success since I didn't burst into tears.
Not once!
Honestly I'm most proud of the fact that my bangs swept away so well, and that it stayed intact all day. I did get a haircut, but it's not this short, the ends are pinned to the back of my head and hidden by the beret. My square/full face shape looks a little off in such a clingy style, so I have to add height to my crown with a hat to not look squished. Since the right side of my hair had more length and wave than the left, I pulled the hat to the side, and added a pretty decorative hat pin to balance it out, pointing the pin upward to bring the eye up, again, so the overall look doesn't appear so flat.

So there you go. If I were to leave the hat behind, it would have a completely different impact.
Oh the magic of a hat.

Styling finger waves is hard, but I've never had trouble making them when I style my hair completely wet with hair gel, pinning it, and sleeping on the pins overnight. Is that how your doing it?

Hats have saved me on so many occasions! I think you look great with this hairdo and I like how your lipstick matches your top :)

Yeah, my hair is just super thick, to it takes some extra working. Also I want more of a ridge in the wave, rather than the smoothness. But I'll have to use pronged clips instead of those bill clips. Need setting lotion though :/

Gorgoues! I so wish I had the skill to master vintage hair techniques but I always end up making such a dismal failure of them :-(

I never would have known that you struggle with finger waves - they look great on you!

Stunning! I think you look great with these :) I am still trying to make my fingerwaves dramatic enough to show in my dark hair – and I feel the same about the full face thing, but then mine is a moon! :)

Really good job there, you look great! I have yet to manage (or even attempt) to subject my hair to finger waving on my own, but I'm sure I wouldn't be able to manage it as well as you have

I want to master finger waves so badly, but my attempts usually do result in tears, haha! Practice makes perfect, I suppose :)

You should totally try out Pin curl waves, they create a beautiful fingerwave effect and are easier to manage!
