Oh The Civic Theater. Why can't I live there.

I'm so glad this theater has been restored so beautifully, there are lots of old theaters at home that just sit there, waiting to be beautified and entertain the masses again. When Ruth and I walked in the lobby, we both thought it was like stepping into a scene in Moulin Rouge. The ceiling of the theater itself has fluffy clouds and stars, with a red curtain, and beautiful seats. There's even an organ for silent film events. And it's haunted. Cherry on top.

Akron, Ohio

Saturday we went to an Akron Aeros baseball game, where my uncle threw the first pitch! We had a box, and for the most part it was a beautiful, sunny day :)
After that a few of us walked around town a bit, taking in the sights. There was an old church, deco buildings, and beautiful deserted storefronts, one of which I was coveting, with a high display base and wallpaper, must have been a jewelry store.

Hopping trains in Ohio

Thursday night my cousin Ruth, Grandma, and I arrived in Ohio for a long weekend in celebration of my uncles graduation. Today we went to Kent State University for a special Katherine Hepburn exhibit, which was of course, fantastic. And of course, no pictures allowed :(
But the moment I entered the room and saw a collection of her pants I started squeeling, nothing says Katherine Hepburn like wide legged pants. There was one red pair in particular I'm definitely re-creating when I get home! It had costumes from her films, and stage productions, she was so much smaller than I ever would have imagined!
After that we visited the site of the Kent State shooting, it was the 41st anniversary a couple days ago, so there were flowers and chalk drawings everywhere.
Lunch was in an antique train depot, so photos on trains is a must :) I love how old things are here, west coast is fairly limited in really old buildings and such, but here it's an abandoned barn, row of victorian houses, brick road, bloggers paradise ;)

I got something pretty in the mail the other day, courtesy of Modcloth. Kitty was excited too :)

Sunny days and giant hats

I got a new lacy petticoat last week, so thats how this outfit started. Playing around with it, I realized it was like a circle skirt, perfect for layering, something I haven't done before. So I put another red petticoat underneath and voila! Extra fluffy. I can put more under too, but that will have to wait for a circle skirt.
Then came the dress, a fabulous frock from Fab Gabs, I put on to model and didn't want to take off. So it came home with me.
And while looking for a hat, I saw this wonderful Christian Dior from Xtabay and knew it would be perfect.

Perfect for an unusually sunny and warm Saturday. I would like more of those please.

Easter Sunday

Easter was a busy day, we had breakfast with Sams family, lunch with my family, and dinner with friends. I must say I can't imagine how those socialites in days past handled so many social calls in one day all the time. No wonder they had fainting chairs!
This is what I wore to lunch at my Aunts house. I've had these wax orange blossoms from the 1920s packed away for years, and thought it was high time they saw the light of day. It's too bad they're so delicate, they would be pretty to wear all the time :)
