Dress?????

Photobucket
Yesterday Shayla and I tried to make sense of a 1930s dress pattern she bought. The pattern itself has some pretty odd pieces, and trying to translate the instructions to something understandable was quite an adventure. We spent HOURS on this dress, actually we were each attempting our own, and spent waaaaayyy too much time on one piece that just would not fit. We figured that having two sewers would make this easier, which I honestly think it did, and I try not to think of attempting such a monster alone. After working all day, and screaming at the instructions, and asking them "What does this mean?!", we decided to call it a day just as we were about to strangle the dress form.

Oh, and Shayla got stung by a bee. Yeah.

My goodness! That seems insanely hard. I'm sure you two got much farther than I ever would have.

p.s. Those last two pictures, paired with your statement made me laugh out loud!

How very ambitious of you both!

I used to just lay down on the floor and trace myself!...to make my own patterns. It worked pretty well, actually.

Oh dear--sometimes those vintage patterns (I find this especially with ones from the 20s/30s) can be a bit cryptic! :p Hopefully it'll work itself out soon? The pictures look like you two had fun though (minus the bee sting! :p)!

LOL, so frustrating. I'm a total beginner when it comes to sewing. Even the easiest pattern scares the bejesus out of me.

haha! I am working on a shorts pattern in the built by wendy collection and when I started reading the instructions my brain about exploded! I finally gave up and just started piecing it together on my own. they were actually fairly simple once I started that. The pattern is really cute though, good luck with it!
