Northwest girl, circa 1954

As much as I love my tailored suits, and peep toe pumps, I'm still a northwest girl at heart. I love my Pendletons, would eat salmon every day if I could, and am one of those crazy people who love the rain ;)

Today I went with my grandma to the outlet store at the Pendleton woolen mills, and was kicking myself for not bringing my camera! The mills were built in 1912 and have become so beautiful with age. Today there was a thick blanket of fog all around, it was so picturesque. Hopefully next time I'll bring my camera!

We also stopped at a yard sale, where I found this fantastic thermos set, with the bag, two thermoses, and a sandwich box for only $1! I've always coveted them, but they're either missing pieces, damaged, or way too expensive. Lucky day!

I've wanted flannel lined jeans since I saw them 10 years ago for men from j.crew. Thanks for reminding me. Maybe I need to make my own! What a great vintage find! Hey, I bet they're just as comfortable and warmer than pajamas...

Adorable; red plaid is so quintessentially 50s. I especially adore your shoes.
I have some flannel lined 50s jeans toooo and they're just the coziest things ever!

I browsed through your entire blog and man, it's great! I don't know how I got to your blog. I'm from the beauty blog scene, so reading your entries is definitely a breath of fresh air. And you're so damn pretty, it's ridiculous. Unfortunately, I live in Katy, TX and there aren't too many vintage shops around here unless I want to make the drive to Houston. Not far, but a pain in the butt considering the traffic, parking, and reckless drivers. I like vintage, but I have a weird body type and I'm pretty active (I weightlift and work at a machine shop) so I've come to accept that I could never wear vintage (authentic). That and I'm not very careful with nice things! Well, it's really nice reading your blog. Very entertaining and inspiring! Thanks, Solanah.

Oh my I love flannel lined jeans and Pendelton Jackets. I have that same bag and adore it to pieces. I have seen a few here at an antique mall rather cheap.

i've been on a hunt for vintage Pendletons. I got one at a clothing swap I hosted a few weeks ago. its been shrunken from washing (gah) but still looks super cute.

I love yours!

A girl after my own heart: Pendleton, Wild Salmon, and Rain! This outfit is perfect.

Adorable! Those jeans sound soooo cozy. I could never leave the PNW either, as annoying as the constant rain can be :)

Have you been to Animal Traffic? It's on N Mississippi (I think) and they have a HUGE selection of vintage Pendelton stuff. You should check it out!

What a lovely way to spend the day...and a fab find at the end of it too! Even better!

Solanah said...

Yes! They are soooo cozy! I just wish they would be full length when I cuff them. Oh well :)

Hep Kitten, at the Pendleton outlet I noticed they have petite 49ers that we smaller than the others. They're not vintage, but maybe worth checking out. And you never know what you might stumble upon!

Louzee, thank you so much! Thanks for reading and commenting :)

Miss Tami Lee, I haven't! Must stop in there sometimes, thanks for telling me about it!

Oh, man. Favorite outfit, ever.
I'm just learning to sew and too rounded to buy off-the-rack vintage (but, eventually!) so these are my kind of retro rags! The SHOES are to die for -- any hints on where your Mom got them?

I've just discovered your beautiful blog and my young daughter and I are in love with your wonderful vintage style. I agree about the PJs - the only reason I can come up with is possibly psych issues? I've suffered from depression for years now and know that personal grooming can be the first thing to go down the swanny. On the plus side, once treatment is working, it can result in some wonderful creative inspiration. xo

What a great picnic set! And a fun outfit! Gotta love plaid--I carried a tin plaid lunchbox for years in elementary school and middle school. I carried it until the handle broke and it couldn't be fixed. Memories!

I like you so much more for expressing your opinions so strongly! I love your clothes. I've been starting to make and op-shop my clothes so much more, not to be cool but because that's me and I've been hiding it and now I'm learning to not be bothered about other people's judgements.

This is a great wintery outfit. I am a big fan of layers...I am always wearing several if there's a chill in the air. Love the thermos! My mom got me a 1950s picnic basket with camping dishes for christmas, and I can't wait till it's warm enough to use it!! :D

Such a cute outfit! And it's so sweet that you got to spend time with your gran. Those times are always precious ( my gran is 89 this year, and I don't get to see her very often as she lives in Adelaide, and I'm in Brisbane.)

I miss the rain :( I'm from Portland, and now I live in Brooklyn, and every time it rains I am so happy :)

You really mix the casual, woodsy aesthetic of the Northwest with your usual style quite well. It looks very natural and very perfect.

Love your shoes! Although your outfit seems comfy, it doesn't look to relaxed but so well done!

Hear, hear to your last post, I second everything you said in it.
I also am in love with the dress you wore in the post before, the gingham print and pockets! eek!
again, you really held your own in that last post and i love it!

P.S. thank you for being you and posting EXACTLY how you feel about pajamas ;)

I have one of those tartan picnic sets too. It's really useful we use it all the time.
It isn't quite as gorgeously Americana-ish but I lurve it just the same. - here is the link to the photos if you want to see - http://thefurtheradventuresofathriftymrs.blogspot.com/2010/10/tarty-tartan.html

Do you watch Mad Men? In the 2nd series they had one just the same as yours. Gorgeous stuff.

I love your lunch set - I've been wanting one but like you said they are always missing pieces! Sad. Well I'm glad you found on in tact and for such an amazing bargain!
Been to Pendleton several times and never gone to the mill; what is the matter with me?! Gads.

I don't know if you will see this. I know I'm commenting on an old post and on a completely different post because comments were closed. I applaud you for speaking your mind about people wearing pajama bottoms out in public! It is one of my pet peeves! I once saw someone in pajama bottoms and SLIPPERS! Can you believe it? I just wanted to say that I agree with you 1000%!

PS - Love the blog, I just found it today!

Great outfit! I just discovered your blog and I love it! And I totally agree on your previous posts, how hard is it to throw on jeans and a tshirt.....maybe not very glamorous but a definite step up from pj's, clean or dirty.

Jennifer Fleck said...

Sounds like you were out in Jumblelayaland...little Washougal :) I think a perfect spot for a photograph on a return visit would be posed by Highway 14 with the big blue Pendleton Mills sign in the background...I'm thinking of taking my 49ers out there and trying it myself on a non-rainy day. Love your blog and it was great meeting you at Julie B's last month. :)

Jennifer Fleck said...

PS YES, the only place pajamas should be worn is at home (and at the occasional glamourous themed cocktail party as seen in your blog). I see a lot of this out in the sticks where I live. I would never appear in public in a state of undress, and a tailored vintage coat (preferably Pendleton), neatly-dressed hair, and cute boots or shoes go miles towards presenting a good public face on even the most harried-mom days when I am pressed for time.

You look so adorable! sorry if that sounds condescending(Because I'm only 18), but you really do. I think you are going to age gracefully :).
