Once Upon a Time {Season one}
This weekend Sam and I finished both seasons of Once Upon a Time on Netflix. I started it a few weeks ago but after getting back from Disneyland and seeing some of the costumes on display, I wanted to get back into it. And then I accidentally got Sam hooked on it too, so a sick day turned into a Once Upon a Time marathon.
It's a show about all those familiar storybook characters we know from books and movies, who get cursed into living in our world. They don't remember they're from a magical world, and they can't leave the town, which is ruled by the evil queen who of cast the spell and of course remembers everything. You still with me?
Her adopted son finds his birthmother and brings her to the town thinking she can break the curse. He figures this out from a book of stories he carries around and spots parallels in the characters in the book, and the townspeople. So each episode jumps between the present in this world and the past in their world.
It's a really fun show, the costumes are over the top, there's such nice eye candy (I do appreciate quality eye candy), the twists on classic fairy-tales are so interesting, and best of all the female rolls are anything but traditional damsels in distress. It's a mainstream show with an even male/female ratio and comparative complexity in their stories and personalities, and that alone makes it good in my book.

Isn't this show awesome? Glad to hear you're a fan too.
Sounds like a great show - need to look into this!
Love the ethereal quality of the fairy story characters... I can see why you both became hooked!
I was kinda sad that the huntsman had to die, he was cute:)
By the way, have you noticed how the baddies in the series are kinda hot? the Mad Hatter for example? :)

I just started watching this recently myself and am pretty hooked. It's fabulous. And you're right - they're amazing female roles.
I totally got hooked on this when I was laid up sick on a holiday to Thailand! It was the only show playing in English on TV, so I watched back to back episodes (often in no particular order). Loved it!
The second season has just finished on TV in the UK so I have a bit of a whole in my Sunday night viewing now!
But I love this programme too!
There is so much going on you really have to pay attention, but I love that you get the back stories to everyone and that it isn't the sweetness and light fairytales I read as a kid!

Looks interesting! I've never heard of it, but will keep it in mind. I'm always on the look out for a new series :)
I love this show! I started watching it when it first came out, just because it's supposed to be set in Maine and that's where I live. At first I didn't have high hopes for it. But then I got totally addicted, and I got everyone in my family addicted. I'm really excited for the new season that's about to start, and I'm excited for the new spin of series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. I can't wait!
The show was on TV here in Germany some time ago. I liked it right away and never missed an episode. Glad you like it too.
I love this show so much! I can't wait for it to come back! Also, I'm looking forward to the spin-off, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland! It's a mix between Alice in Wonderland and Aladdin!

Well, I guess I know what I'm knitting to after I finish Six Feet Under!
This show can be REALLY maddening at times...but we can't stop watching, either!
I'm so glad you're enjoying Once Upon A Time! One of my besties told me I had to watch it, if only for the clothes. Needless to say, I got hooked!
There is also the bonus of adoring every single thing Mary Margaret wears in this show. I think I have knitted every hat in this show also...
I really love the show although I don't like what season two made of Prince Charming.
The costumes are great, though, and so are most of the characters!
My friend Sonequa is on that show! We were in theater together in Alabama. So proud of her; she's awesome.
I've started watching this show. You're right, it's great!
checked out the show and now i'm hooked! thanks for introducing me to it:)
OUaT is my absolute favorite show! If you're on twitter, check out @Angbc13 - she works in costuming for Once Upon A Time and sometimes tweets fun behind the scenes photos of fittings, pieces they're working on, props, etc!
