If you are going to have just one vintage item in your closet, JUST ONE, then for goodness sake make it a wool coat. Unless you live somewhere warm, then perhaps look into a nice dress :)
Vintage wool coats are made from, well, wool. Pure and simple. Most modern coats, at least the fashionable ones, have a blend of wool and synthetic fibers, which brings down the quality but not the price. You can on the other hand find a vintage coat that no one else has, is made from all wool, looks amazing, and not spend a fortune. You can buy a well made vintage coat for a fraction of the cost for a modern coat of the same quality. These are some of my favorites on Etsy right now (especially that brown princess one. Wow.) and I'm sure you can find a great coat to last many winters to come!

Those are gorgeous! I am about to list all my coats soon too. Speaking of amazing vintage coats, I just found the most beautiful 30's/ 40's swing coat today. It's fabulous. It makes me feel like a victorian pirate. I can't wait to come home for the holidays and try to talk my mom out of this particular vintage wool coat with square glass beads hand sewn on (made by a local designer who sold off to Nordstroms when they started) . She wasn't ready to give it up last year but maybe she is now. I am also really looking forward to checking out all the dresses at Urban Eccentric! Woot!

I SOOOOOO lucked out and snagged myself the perfect pumpkin spice wool coat from my local thrift store for 99 cents! It has some lovely buttons! Now all I gotta do is get it to a dry cleaner.

I own a blue vintage trench coat that I bought on Ebay last year and I love it. I can't get anything too thick because I live in Florida but I love having a vintage coat :)

my problem with 100% wool is that it tends to smell like..well..sheep when it gets wet. and i don't really like wet sheep :D

OMG, that princess coat! I'm always cinching my trench coat to try to get waist definition. That coat would do it for me!
For my birthday I bought a brand new, cobalt blue , belted trench coat with a large collar and big black buttons! Of course the day after I bought it, it was warm and then It rained for 3 days!

Those coats are gorgeous. I live in an area where it's pretty impractical to invest in a fancy, long wool coat but I really wish I had reason to.
I saw that first princess coat when Dear Golden Vintage posted an update and I gasped. Freaking amazing!
