American Album

 photo 5_zps707df2e8.jpg

I thrifted a book recently titled "American Album". Published in 1970, it's full of photographs from the mid 1800s to the turn of the century. The first two photos I found the most interesting, the gentleman is W.L. Taylor, thought to be the town barber of Copperstown New York. The women below is believed to be his wife. I'm just itching to know the colors of their clothing, those patterns are perfection.

That last photo is so lovely. The hair, the slip, the shoes, the gaze. Perfection!

These are great! They're real people, which is so nice to see. Oftentimes only the stars and advertisements remain, so it's wonderful to see the normal people that have built America!
The last photo is so gorgeous. She looks comfy and peaceful, and her hair is phenomenally flattering.

Sometimes I itch so badly to be part of that era, but most of the time I am glad that it is now and we are free to take the best of the 1800s!

Wow, these photos are amazing! The first gentleman is very swish and the lady on the rock at the sea looks pretty as anything, I find it super interesting seeing the things you find. Just thinking what these photos must have meant to someone and who these people were and what their little roles were in the social history of your country, is incredible. I'd love to come across something like this x

It would be marvelous if one could glimpse into the past and see these images in colour for sure, though there is very nearly always something to said for the subtle air of mystery that not being able to see them in vivid hues imparts. The black, white and sepia tones reminds us, no matter how close we may feel to days gone by, that they in fact rooted deeply in the past, left for us to daydream about and paint in colour in our history loving minds.

So beautiful photographies. I want to know more about the people on them and yes, about the colours! Will keep my eye out for that book!

Wow - these are absolutely incredible. I keep going through, over & over. I hope the second lady was the first gentleman's wife, for what a beautiful couple they would've been. I think the little girl in the hat is my favorite though. Her outfit is incredible - that lacing! That hat!! But it's also her expression, love it.

Totally unrelated to the beautiful pictures in this post, but have you seen the new panther back seam tights from H&M? http://www.hm.com/us/product/14317?article=14317-A When I saw them in Amsterdam I immediately thought of you! Love the blog, you truly are an inspiration!

I have to add my voice to so many of the others: that last picture is stunning.

Solanah, does the book say anything about her or where she is? Something about it is so exquisite, it is almost haunting.
