Camifornia: Marshmallows and kittens!

This morning we headed to Encinitas to check out Double Take, a designer resale store, and Flashbacks Vintage, which has more modern than vintage but fun all the same. I bought a little burgundy 1930s style J.Crew sweater for fall at Double Take, really excited to find a sweater that was short enough.
Afterward we went looking for a lunch spot and decided to try something new. We came across a cafe that looked good, so we went in and asked for a table. They said they were just about to close, but it was fine and seated us. After about ten minutes of waiting at a table at the back of the restaurant with not so much as a glance our way we left, and instead headed to our favorite cafe in Solana beach. Zinc Cafe has some of the most amazing food, the tiny little place nestled between boutiques and fancy antique stores, there's always a line and for good reason! After a yummy lunch of gourmet four cheese macaroni and eggplant lasagna, we got a big warm drink. I had the hot chocolate with the biggest, yummiest marshmallow ever. Seriously, I nearly licked the cup clean.
The local market was nice, the produce was just beautiful, can't wait for ours to start up back home!
We just HAD to take a picture with the cacti, since we took one in the same spot last time we were here.
Last stop in Solana Beach was the Antique Warehouse, where I got my red purse last time! I found one must have treasure there, a kitten umbrella! So exciting. My mother loved it too so she got it for me ;) I love it.
There was a perfect pair of never worn 1930s oxfords in black I wanted, but they were too narrow, oh well. I just need to buy some repro ones, eventually I'll find just the right ones.
Tomorrow we're thinking of going into San Diego if anyone knows of anything good there (vintage or thrift shops, restaurants), I really have no idea what's over there, so any suggestions would be great!

Solanah-- Not sure how far South you are planning on going, but as a fellow vintage fashion blogger, and a resident of San Diego, I am not sure if you are coming this far South in California, but if you are I would love to meet up. I know a lot of fun vintage spots in the most Southern bits of Southern California.

If you like sushi, the best place for it in San Diego is Sushi Deli & its not expensive. There is always a little wait, but well worth it. There are multiple locations but I like 228 West Washington St San Diego, CA :)

Oh whoops, tried to combine two thoughts in one sentence, but forgot to proofread. I do know some amazing vintage locations in San Diego though! Eek!

Sadly, I've never really had a chance to explore the vintage scene of San Diego. I remember Wear It Again Sam in Hillcrest as being really fun, though definitely not cheap, and that area has some cute cafes and restaurants (I like St. Tropez, which has delicious pastries and really cute decor). The Corvette Diner in Liberty Station is a relocated version of a diner I loved for its fun 50s vibe, so you might enjoy that! Plus, they have pretty darn good shakes. :)
Coronado is a beaaaautiful area to visit, with the famous Hotel Del Coronado which you may recognize as the "Florida" setting for Marilyn Monroe's fabulous film, Some Like It Hot! There are some huge houses in the area that are fun to look at, plus the hotel is spectacular. And the beach is lovely.

Greetings from Burbank. There are quite a few vintage shops out here especially since this is where a lot of the film and tv studios are located. Magnolia Blvd is where they tend to congregate.

Wear It Again Sam is pretty pricy, but really nice. Another option is Frock You, another vintage store on park blvd in Hillcrest. I don't know what their prices are like normally, but they recently had a huge sale and I just about died and went to heaven.
Hillcrest is great (where I live!)
But the thrift stores are kinda picked through. You'll want to go up the street to North Park, where (I recall) the thrift stores aren't bled dry.

It is so weird to see pictures of you in my neighborhood! (I used to live in Encinitas, and I now live in Hillcrest.)
I feel like I should invite you to tea.

Enjoy yourself!

If you're going to San Diego, you have to check out World's Famous Seafood and order the lobster bisque. I'm normally not much of a fish person, but this stuff is AMAZING!

Gorgeous photos, love that sailor jacket. Its so tiny is it a childs or just tailored like that, any who its adorable.

When your in Los Angeles make sure to go to Aardvarks Vintage. I am from Long Beach CA and 4th streets great but can be a bit pricey for not much of a selection depending on the store.

But Aardvarks is huge and has a great selection and the prices are usually very fair.

I couldnt find the site right away but here is the number and address, 323-655-6769

7579 Melorse Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90046.

The store is 3 stories, make sure to go to the bottom level its packed with old military jackets, swing coats and dresses.

I was also wondering if that was a tailored navy jacket? I have one from the 40s but it's slightly too small to get on over my head easily, but making it open might be the thing to do! I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the kittie umbrella!

Well, Hillcrest certainly is the place for vintage clothing shopping, and you can find lots of other cool stores there as well, from book stores to old record stores.

Out of anything though, I'd say either go to Belmont Park and ride the wooden roller coaster, and have fun at the beach. Or, go to Balboa Park on Tuesday for free museum day. You'll have to check which one is free, but they always have one free. If you really want to splurge though, check out the Fleet Space Museum, because that was always a favorite of mine.

Really, anywhere you go in San Diego should be nice. You might enjoy visiting the Gaslamp district as well.

Have fun and be safe!

So exciting to see that you are coming down to San Diego!

If you're looking for furniture and things go to:

Ocean Beach Antique Mall
4847 Newport Ave
San Diego, CA 92107
or
Gledhill's Vintage Furniture
2610 Adams Avenue, San Diego, CA 92116-1310

Also in Ocean Beach are:

The Retro
4879 Newport Ave
San Diego, CA 92107
(I've never been, but all along Newport are good shops. They also have a wonderful Farmer's Market on Wednesdays)
and
Temptress
1918 Bacon Street
San Diego, CA 92107
(They do repro clothing from brands like Stop Staring!)

Another place I've yet to check out, but looks fantastic is Tata Lane in Little Italy.
http://www.rubylane.com/shops/tatalane

This list is getting long, but the USS Midway near Seaport Village is fun to visit! There is a rich WWII history here and it has the "Unconditional Surrender" statue that you could take a picture with :)

If you'd like any more suggestions drop me a line on my blog. Enjoy your stay!

The best dessert place in the entirety of San Diego is called Extraordinary Desserts, and it is DIVINE. There are two locations in San Diego downtown; just google it and you won't regret it!
