Basement dwellers

Photobucket

I rearranged the basement today, after purchasing some new drinking glasses.

That's normal right?

Mostly I put together a temporary bar, and shifted some sewing area stuff.

I really regret not buying that beautiful deco bar at an estate sale when I had the chance! But that's just one on my long list of estate sale regrets.

Since we live with my grandma some of the things in the basement are hers, like some pictures, and the bedroom set (look at that huge mirror!).

Have a good weekend!

A stocking dryer hangs little hats really well up on the ceiling.

Sams shoe rack is an old CD shelf. Photobucket
Thin velvet hangers are my new best friend. I can fit twice as much on racks, and things don't slip. Photobucket
My hide-a-way sewing table doubles as a writing desk. Photobucket
Anchor magazine rack (!!!) is currently utilized as a knitting station. Photobucket
A vintage vanity is the base for our "bar". Everything kind of fits together like a puzzle, magazines in the metal stand, glasses and games on the shelf, bottles on the tray! Photobucket
Before we moved in I painted the bathroom. It was the only room in the house that just looked really, really sad. And since I've never been able to paint anywhere we lived, I took full advantage of that! It's a design I saw in a magazines years ago, and I really like the result! Photobucket
No space left unused. Photobucket
Two crates are a perfect fit for this traincase and sewing basket. I have my mending kit on top, thread in the middle, and little sewing projects at the base. Easy grab things I use often.

What a treasure chest of a room, it must be lovely to have a whole basement to use for storage. I am SO going to use the stocking dryer idea for my hats. And I'm using those same velvet hangers!

My goodness, what a thoroughly fantastic Aladdin's cave of vintage treasures you've created in this basement.

I love all of your clever storage ideas (I used to hang hats from a stocking dryer to hang hats, too, in our old place - might revisit that idea again, though I'm hoping to display at least some of them on the wall these days, as we have a tad more space), and think you've done a thoroughly stellar job of arranging your gorgeous vintage items in this new setting.

Ingenious! Stocking drying rack for hats! And the thin velvet hangers would be perfect in my teeny tiny NYC closets...where would one find them, are they easy to get?

Thanks everyone!

I got the hangers at T.J. Maxx, but they are sold many places online.
