Red is the best color.

Today was another trip to Portland, and it was a little chilly. Brrr. We went to Powells books and I browsed through the fashion section on the search for that glove book, with no luck. There were only a few books that really interested me, since far to many of them are t-shirt, sneaker, or "How to dress" books, and far to little of the ones I want. Only one little book on Paul Poiret, a thin selection on Chanel, and of course, no glove books whatsoever. A few hat books, but nothing in my price range. There is an adorable little Dior book I always eye when I'm there, but I can never bring myself to pay $20 for it. I don't know why, it's worth it, but I guess when I think I can get a dress instead, that just makes more sense. I also looked at some bread baking books, since I'd like to start making homemade bread. I always want to browse the actual novel section, I'd love to get into some designer biographies, but I have so many other books to read it would seem pointless. After the book store we went to the vintage store Magpie, one of my favorites in Portland. Last time we went Sam found a suit, which are hard to find that fit him well. Today he found another one that was three piece, just what he's been looking for. I also found an amazing 50s pink lace suit with rhinestone buttons and and a big satin bow in the back. Fit like a glove. Sigh.

I am so envious of your both being cool (burning up down here!) and being so close to the hippest little city in the States!

I bake bread!
Its really simple after you do it the first time. and SO yummy.

I love those shoes, I want a pair similar to that. I have been hunting for a while. I really want a cute pair of 40s oxfords.

Hehe, well I'm missing the heat right now. Well, I think all that comes with it like the farmers market, friends, and light cotton dresses, not so much the heat. I'll enjoy the coolness for a few months longer, and you the heat, then we'll swap!

I just knew you would bake bread :)It seems simple enough. There was a book that was all about no knead breads, they are supposed to be the simplest to make, but admittedly I love kneading, so if you have any recipes to recommend, let me know!

At magpie today there were the cutest shoes. Some amazing 40s pin up ones, if I didn't walk to work I would buy less practical shoes. 40s oxfords, yes those are a treasure to be found.

Oh, I have a very basic recipe, its like "big old bread" or something, its a plain white bread. but FRICK, its YUMMMMMMMMY.. tim has been complaining that I have not baked a loaf of it lately... so I better make it.

I can write it down for you, or post it here. its simple. but if you feel afraid (i was terrified the first time hahah) I would be more than willing to bake a loaf with you. I LOVVVVVVVVVVE baking.

ok, enough with the capitals tonight. But seriously, I am a bake-a-holic.

Hey--do you have hose on, or do you go bare legged in the winter?

Solanah said...

Oh always the hose or stockings, it's much to chilly for bare legs!

You look so cute and 1940s, and I love the idea of wearing a '40s-ish outfit with flat oxfords like that. Also have you checked Amazon used books for that Dior book? I've bought some books super cheap on there lately--silent film star bios for 99 cents! It's crazy.

Thanks Rhiannon :)

Yeah, I think I just need to go crazy with books one day, although I do have a hat making book I ordered from amazon that is waaaayyyy to complex for what I wanted. I'm thinking of trading it for the little book.

Gosh...Does Sam wear vintage unique stuff too?? If so that is way to cool. That kind of coolness shouldn't be legal! Just kidding!

Here's a great blog to check out if you want some more vintage shops.

Flutter isn't a vintage clothing shop but they have a lot of vintage items and the shop is amazing, I highly recommend it.
