I like color.

Photobucket

This dress is my perfect red dress. It's from Vivien of Holloway and is sooooo pretty! I've been craving a 50s sarong dress lately, as they are so flattering and summery. I searched for a Hawaiian one last night on Etsy and Ebay with no luck, they were either not my taste, or hundreds of dollars. I actually sold one in my shop a while back, but it was too big. It was also in my shop a total of two minutes, I have a feeling I could have asked a bit more than $56.00 for it. But the buyer was really excited, so thats great :)
Perhaps I will find one like it at a thrift store, you never know!

That would be wonderful!! I seem to have the same problem, all the vintage dresses I adore are always either the wrong size or too pricey!

I'm a HUGE fan of sarong dresses (and Dorothy Lamour, who wore them best, IMHO); actually, I'm obsessed with 40s/50s hawaii in general; like you, I'm on the prowl for a relatively inexpensive sarong dress. The ones sold by Vivien of Holloway and Whirling Turban, etc., are stunning but $$$$. I hate to say it but, you let an amazing dress slip away...still, with your sewing skills, I'll bet you could easily whip one of these babies up (though if you wanted any boning in it, it could get tricky).

Love you blog!

I have thought about just making one, I'd need a great pattern though, which I'm sure would be expensive too! Boning is no problem, it always just takes me a while because I sew it in by hand. I also love the elastic side or back detail of a lot of the hawaiian dresses, which is something I can so not do myself!

Gorgeous dress that! I have one of the circle skirt dresses from Vivien of Holloway but my boobies are too small for the boned bust! *cry*

That red dress would look fab on you!

Red is just the most flattering colour for any woman. It's glamourous and sexy (in a stylish way)at the same time. And men love women in red, so that's a bonus too.

ps I bought myself a summer hat today :). I already loved hats, but because of you, my obsession is growing even more :). I've only got 2 now, but that's just the beginning. Thanks for the inspiration!

I think I have one you can have. (Hawaiian) I have no idea what I am saving it for. I'll bring it Saturday if I remember.

It's vintage Waltah Clarke. Just FYI. Do you remember I wore it to my surprise Hawaiian bday party years ago?

Love sarong dresses! They are becoming more difficult to come by and when I do find them, are very, very expensive! One day I will splurge! Stunning red!

I just love the dress! And the color. Red is so amazing now when it's summer. I've been looking for that type of dress for myself but we don't have that in sweden. Or maybe I just don't know where to look...

I have one of these! Though it's in a gorgeous scarlet material, with tiny gold dragons printed on it. It makes me feel like a glamorous nightclub singer - I highly recommend you nab one if it ever comes your way again!
